Paul Smith 0
Can you believe it's been 2 months since our last DJU Member interview - well read on because Josh has just vacated the interview room.... 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? McCardle 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Josh McCardle, 42, Wilmslow Cheshire (moving further north soon), Married with 5 kids 3. What is the Name of your Disco? Double Deuce Roadshow, named after my interest in country music 4. How long have you been a DJ? A long time! 5. What inspired you to become a DJ Nothing really it just happened and I fell in love with it 6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union? Musicians Union I cannot recommend them highly enough, after reading a thread on this forum about help with recovering fees I contacted the area rep and within two weeks i had payment in full. so thanks to the Musicians Union & DJU 7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc) I do the odd country music freebie for a local group but I do around 2 weddings a week on average 8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience? Called one bride Michael instead of Michelle over the mic during the first dance several years ago, I think it was the uk's first unofficial civil partnership http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif 9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself) Not put too much money in buying equipment as it really does not matter much as long as you have the basics and it is looked after you will find that you really do need to spend the money elsewhere in getting yourself established 10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"? Most of my work is word of mouth so the hard work is done for me by those doing the recommending to their friends and family 11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why? A wife as she is always nagging me to spend the weekends at home 12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be? I've just recently bought some equipment from thomann and a german retailer on ebay as the prices were too good to refuse and it was a genuine bargain however I do not plan on buying anything else for a while 13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? Cupholders 14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig? Never had anything fail during a gig 15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? Dealing with people 16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Dealing with people, and yes I know that I have entered it twice but people are so unpredictable that they can make the job enjoyable or hard work 17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? Threat of a divorce 18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? It will be run and controlled the local council just like doorstaff and if your name ain't down you ain't coming in. 19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? Where is your glamourous assistant 20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? Be yourself 21. And worst advice you were ever given? You need an agent to get anywhere 22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer) I don't really need or buy much new stuff the odd legal download does me fine 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you! Brown eyed girl, Dance the night away, Feels like I'm in love 24. Mode of transportation. 2002 Transit 25. What is the furthest that you've travelled from home for a single gig? Gretna Green 26. Approximately how many gigs have you done to date? 100's 27. What is the largest/smallest audience numbers you've played to? 4 / 700 28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco? Word of mouth 29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action) Never 30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here... I became a full time deejay after filling in at a local pub when the landlord had been let down at the last minute I have always had a keen interest in music and the only reason that I got asked was that I was the only person who the landlord knew who had a decent music collection until then I had never considered being a deejay and if it hadnt have been drinking there the night before I probably never would have considered it. amazing how one simple event can change your whole situation. I have recently resigned from the ambulance service to become a house husband! & persue deejaying full time

Paul Smith 0
QUOTE (Andy Westcott @ Aug 24 2006, 08:36 PM) Interesting read, as all these interviews are. Thankyou. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif Yes they are interesting - however there are excessive gaps between each one because of a lack of volunteers................ If you feel that you can't take part because a certain question puts you off then I can always substitute it for something else (your favourite colour perhaps http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif ). I send out loads of these interviews but it's getting them back where things fall down. Ideally one interview a week would suffice which by current trends would require me to send them out to 5 people.................. Please don't all rush at once (& I mean that) - just because I've got my 2005/6 tax return done doesn't mean that I can cope with an abundance of PMs in one go http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/kid.gif Hold the post............ I was about to send this when a window appeared telling me that another interviewee has responded (it's the waiting for a bus syndrome).................so you can read all about http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif in a couple of days.
