i have 4 scatscans and a source celebration and am new to dmx. i want to controll and create light shows using my pc.

 

can anybody tell me if they think this product is any good or can anyone suggest a better alternative???

I rate it as very hard work. If you write your own software you will be ok.

 

There have been good reports from the sweetlight USB - DMX dongle lead. (google sweetlight - or search these forums. I can't find the link at the mo.)

For best bang for buck and good support from some decent commercial applications (Chamsys MagicQ for 1 which Raaawwks!!!) and non-commercial (Freestyler) try the Enttec USB Pro. If you plan on using it live then its advised you use the pro as it has processing built in rather than the OpenUSB which is cheaper but doesn't. If you plan on running other stuff on the PC then you stand a much better chance of everything staying in sync with the Pro. Its still only the price of a crap desk and there are more and more products coming on the market which support it. Look at it as a longer term investment and the £100 will not seem to bad.

 

Given that you could run a full 6 universe show for £600 its actually flippin cheap!
