DJ Geco 0
What would you recommend as an estate car with an engine minimum size of 1600 but no more than 2.0 as insurance is mega bucks after that. My budget is under £1000 so it is gona have to be very second hand. Only has to last me a year whilst I save up for a brand new car! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif Ladies and gentleman, your suggestions please (and if anyone has anything for sale that fits the bill, do tell!) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

DJ Geco 0
The kangoo van would be too small to get the full disco in, so i would still need a trailer, which kinda defeats the object of a van http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif I'm thinking Astra Estate, any thoughts? Kingy 0
Ads has an Austin Cambridge knockin' about somewhere!!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif I feel sorry for any youngster trying to insure a car of this size in today's climate. DJ Geco 0
Ok update, went car shopping this evening around all the local garages. ANd i stumbled across a nice Mercedes Vito van/minibus. Has 2 rows of removable sets in the back to leave a decent sized van space, or you can have the 5 seats in the back to make it a nice luxury people carier! Nice sized engine (2.3 so i could just about stretch to that with the insurance) and looks quite nice. Couldn't test drive as the garage was shut, but looked very nice. Anyone have any experience with them? Any blatent problems with having that as a day to day use vehicle and also taking the seats out weekends to use for the disco? Pricewise, advertised at £3495, so with a bit of haggling i'd guess £3k, any good?

Andy Westcott 0
I drove an electric milk float for about 10 years, and I'll tell you what - when the resistor chain goes open circuit and the contactors finally connect direct to battery at the end of their operating sequence, they don't half accelerate! 0 - 5 in a fraction of a second! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif BANG!! Crates come off the back, slight wheelie if facing uphill, and occasionally the back axle will break....... Strange but true. Been there, done it. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif Oh, but little use for carrying disco gear, as there is a lip about 1 inch high to keep everything on board - not enough for retaining speakers, I feel. ChrisPointon 0
QUOTE It was 45mph!!! And that is nearly fixed now Hmmm, how long have you been driving again before you had this accident? 6 months? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif Do you think that buying a brand new car is a good idea, given your age and track record so far, http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif Besides fully comp insurance at 17 / 18 will be a nigh on impossibility unless you've won the lottery!. I'd carry on with what you are using and save up a bit more, and go for a mid range estate car / van in the £2500 - £5000 range, Car auctions as Ed says will get you a lot of car for your money, if you don't mind buying them in their raw state and giving them a clean and a Valet you'll save a small fortune on the same car from a dealer. If you are looking for a Van always buy privately or from an Auction, as dealers always add VAT to the prices. Don't forget that a new car can lose as much as 40 - 50% of its value in the first 2 years!, so instead of buying brand new, the best buys to be had are those ex company cars at 3 years of age, which are just weeks out of warranty and are being sold on cheaply through the Auctions by the lease companies. Although these tend to be higher mileage, they have lost the bulk of the depreciation, and have been serviced religiously and have had every little thing which needed doing by the manufacturer under Warranty. As an example, the firm I work for has just bought an 03 BMW 320D through such an Auction, costing £26k three years ago, and £7300 in 2006 from Auction - the same car would have been £9000+ from a forecourt.
