1. What is your DJU Forum Alias?

Cosmic Deano

 

2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status?

Dean Williams, 22, Flintshire (north wales), single

 

3. What is the Name of your Disco?

Cosmic discos

 

4. How long have you been a DJ?

Just over a year.

 

5. What inspired you to become a DJ

I have always enjoyed discos from when I was a kid, I was interested in the lighting and the music. I also used to know a few local djs

 

6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union?

My application has been sent to the NADJ. I recently attended their monthly meeting, really interesting.

 

7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc)

It has to be weddings, they’re so much fun.

 

8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience?

Can’t think of anything to be honest, perhaps get someones name wrong

 

9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself)

I am at the beginning!

 

10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"?

I have a very wide selection of music and a large light show. I’m honest and trustworthy too.

 

11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why?

I bought a set of ropelights. They are like a giant spring! Uncontrollable, they keep the shape from when you wrap them up and they always look dirty!

 

12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be?

I’m looking at new stands. Not sure whether to go for goal post truss or winch up t bar

 

13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be?

As someone said before, lamps that don’t blow.

 

14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig?

My very first disco was a disaster, it was a last minute cancellation. It was a wedding and after I had set up, my amp would not work. After a lot of sweating and fiddling with it, it sprang to life. God knows how, a miracle!

 

15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing?

Personally, I love the music and watching people enjoy themselves

 

16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing?

STAIRS

 

17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)?

My health

 

18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years?

I think the next big thing is LED’s

 

19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig?

Can you play agadoo

 

20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ?

Use quality equipment

 

21. And worst advice you were ever given?

When announcing the buffet, drop hints that your hungry to ensure you get a bite to eat.

 

22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer)

Now discs, legal downloads

 

23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you!

Macarena, Dancing Queen, Living on a prayer

 

24. One piece of advice you'd give to someone just starting out.

Don’t hide behind your equipment

 

25. What medium format do you mainly use eg vinyl, CD, hard-drive?

I use a laptop with an external hard drive.

 

26. Have you embraced/adapted any ideas that you've read about on DJU?

Not yet!

 

27. What is your best gig ever and your worst?

Best gig ever was a wedding where there were a few experienced dj’s present who said my sound was spot on and couldn’t believe I had only been gigging for about a year.

Worst gig was in an upstairs function room in a pub. The air con had broken and it was boiling. I had sweat dripping off the end of my nose!!

 

28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco?

Word of mouth

 

29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action)

no

Any advice would be a great help
