What you think of these???

Recommended Posts

I've just ordered a set of these and a case from Discoworld £319 for the four lights with bulbs and £75 for the case to hold them.

Great deal,

Eddie.

Note to self, You now have enough more than enough lights.

Looks a good deal but are you aware that the lamps are only 12v--100w. Maybe this is bright enough for you. I can`t comment on the light as I`v never seen them in action but am sure someone will come on here who uses them and will advise you.

Great deal,

Eddie.

Note to self, You now have enough more than enough lights.

Just to update you on these lights. I received them on Tuesday last week, but had to ring up the shop to say I was a little disappointed with the lights.

Conversation follows:

Me "Hi, I ordered some lights from you yesterday and they arrived about 45 minutes ago. I have opened them all up and after following the instructions have connected them up, but I am a little disappointed in them".

"What do you mean" the chap said.

I said, "I expected them to be brighter than they are",

He Said, "Well they are only 100 watts",

"that's not the problem" I said,

"Oh" he said, "What is the problem then",

I said. "you've forgotten to include the lamps",

"That'd do it" he said, "I'll get some in the post to you".

Well the lamps arrived on Thursday and as I was on my 12.5hr dayshifts (plus 1hr commute each way) until yesterday I could not be bothered to try them out when I got back from work, so, up bright and early this morning I got them all out, fitted the lamps, connected them to the DMX controller and began to play.

Well, I have to say I am very impressed, both with the amount of light produced from the 100 watt reflector lamp, the sharpness of the gobos when focused with the lens and also the smoothness of the movement when using the sliders for control (not so smooth when using the joystick though). Whilst using in my front room, the intensity of the light produced is easily a match for both the Chameleon 4s and also the Stairville Earthquakes, so no lights should overpower the others.

I found the build quality too be quite good, and the single screw removal to change the lamp is nice, although I would have been even better with a thumbscrew.

I set each scanner up on a different channel and have them set as scanners 1-4 on the controller, this leaves scanner button 5 to control the Chameleons and scanner button 6 to control the Earthquakes (Acme Falcons).

For the full lightshow, I now have eleven lights of which 10 are dmx controlled.

I plan to have five lights on the goalpost, in the middle facing rearwards I will put an Acme Inferno (aimed either onto a lightish coloured wall or a projector screen), either side of that I will have an Earthquake facing forward, and on the outside of that I will have a Dynamo scanner also facing forward. On each of my two T bar stands (set up to either side of the dancefloor) I will have an Earthquake and a Dynamo scanner. On the floor to either side of my DJ stand I will place one of the Chameleons aiming at the ceiling, and for the venues that allow it I will have a small fogger either side of those.

I am hoping this will give me the coverage I would need to produce a decent light show, to enhance the decent music I will be playing http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

So now I have decided on the lights I will use I will have to get rid of the lights I purchased in haste before finally deciding on how I wanted to go.

Anyone want some cheap lights, near mint condition, little use very reasonable 3 of the four boxed with all accessories. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/amen.gif

I can get all my kit (not including the passive outfit) in my 6' x 4' trailer with the lights and mixer are carried in the car boot. I would only need to put something inside the car if I am going to do Karaoke as the TV would need to be taken.

Roadie would be nice though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

To meet EU regs (and maybe CE, but I am not sure) you must have to use a tool to gain access to a lamp, so a thumbscrew would be illegal.

My Celebrations have got thumb screws on them - both for the lamp access, and to remove the top of the case to change the gobo wheel.

Some of your lights will. I don't care personally. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

When Dereck from Constella changed from having thumbscrews on the older chameleon to having screws on the bulb access chamber we (as retailers) asked him why he had done this, it made the job more awkward and slightly more time consuming.

He pointed out the regulations had changed and that was why he had to change the design. Simple as. If others didn't follow the rules, not my fault. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbdown.gif

Does that clear it up for you all?? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

My Martin RoboScan 812's have 3 thumbscrews on the bulb access panels. They are the EU model. They are CE marked.

But how old are they?????????? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

This conversation took place betwen Dereck (owner of Constella Lighting) & I in 2001. He said that the regs have changed. I can't think where on the net the regs would be, but I can assure you that if he says its right, it's a fact. It will obviously only apply to units manufactured after a certain date, but Constella wouldn't have continued to manufacture stuff if it didn't meet code. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

Not saying all manufacturers, especially abroad would be quite so strict.
