Supradave 0
I have an 18th birthday coming up at the weekend and was speaking to the young lad on the telephone last night about the type of music he would like played. He wants some Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Nirvana etc which is no problem as I have material by all of them and have a pretty good idea of some tracks of there's that I can play. He did however also mention some artists that I do not have anything by and have no idea what there better tracks are, namely Metallica, Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd. I intend to pay a visit to my local HMV in the next couple of days to fill these gaps in my musical collection however can anyone advise suitable tracks by these three bands that would (probably) be well received. BigBen 0
Not a great help here Dave, but I recently played a gig with Pearl Jam on the menu. I got their album entitled "Ten" which I was told, by the diehard fans, that this was their BIG album. I think they requested Alive and Jeremy from it. As for Metallica, they've been around for years but I only ever play, because it's all I have, Enter Sandman (fantastic song!) and Nothing Else Matters from the self-titled CD. these may be considered too commercial by a knowledgable fan though. As for Pink Floyd...they're http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/pooh.gif [insert quirky comment]
shakermaker 0
Here's where I can come in handy mate. You can PM me if you like but these should work. Pearl Jam - Alive, Jeremy (as BigBen mentioned) plus Rearview Mirror, Daughter (The first two are on 'Ten' as BigBen said and the second two are on the second album 'Vs'). Metallica - Enter Sandman, Sad but True, St Anger, So What! (The first two are on the black album, Sad but True is on 'Load' and the last one, which is a cover of an old punk tune is on a covers album of theirs I think). :cense:Please be aware though that 'So What!" has some serious language in it...(Moderators - This is so he is aware ok - The lyrics go "so what, so what you boring little c http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif and so on) Pink Floyd - Money, Comfortably Numb, Another Brick in the wall, Time These are all scattered allover the place on different albums and Pink Floyd are usually wierd to play as they are generally chill out tunes. If in doubt say that you have no problem at all if the guy wants to bring along some stuff for you to play, then it saves you money. Hope that helps Edited September 5, 2006 by EdBray Shakermaker Promotions Indie / Rock & Alternative Specialist (But I can cater for everything else too).
Corabar Steve 0
I'll go with Shakermaker on this, with the exeception of So what, apart from the fact it doesn't work in an american accent the original by the Anti Nowhere League P http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif all over it. Don't use it at an event if "Granny" is sitting in the corner you may have to call a ambulance to deal with the coronary http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif There is a good Pink Floyd best of that came out last year called Echos. It contains pretty much all the Pink Floyd you'll ever need. "Wherever I may roam" & "Of wolf & man" off Metallica (the Black album),"One" off And justice for all , ""Seek & Destroy" from Kill 'em all, "Creeping death" off Ride the lightning, "Battery" & "Master of Puppets" from the album of the same name should also please any true Metallica fan As for pearl Jam I can't argue with what's been said apart form to add " Evenflow" from Ten to the list. I was DJing in Rock clubs at the time of the Metallica / Pearl Jam suggestions & know that they are proven floorfillers for that type of crowd Hope this helps Shame I'm busy this weekend I could've come along & given you a hand, it's been a while since I've done a rock gig http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sadwalk.gif Steve... Supradave 0
I have to admit to really looking forward to the gig. Planning on adding some chilli peppers, offspring, wheatus, foo fighters and Muse to the mix along with many others so it should be a good un. The gig is in a marque in someone's back garden (built up area) and is a family party so I think I had better give So What a miss. (I may try scaring granny with something like firestarter later in the evening though.) I saw the Pink Floyd - Echoes CD on the net and it looked like the one to get although I think the comment about them being chill out music is spot on. Definately early evening stuff. Thanks for the advice everyone, looks like I have a few days intensive Pearl Jam\Metallica listening to do.

mick 0
QUOTE (shakermaker @ Sep 5 2006, 09:43 AM) If in doubt say that you have no problem at all if the guy wants to bring along some stuff for you to play, then it saves you money. This is good advice, I did a gig for a couple who were really into metal and heavy rock but wanted other music for their guests who were not heavily into this music. I sugested that they might like to bring me a selection of their favourites which they were pleased to do. I did have many of the tracks already but it did help knowing they were apropriate to play. The night went very well and I have had other work from this job. Hope you have a good night, I'm sure you will.
BigBen 0
I take a small case, holds about 24 cd's, with me to each gig. If anybody brings me a cd to play I pop it in here with their name on! Then, at the end of the night, I take it home and blatantly steal them. How else do you think I've managed to get so many CD's! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif [insert quirky comment]
shakermaker 0
BigBen - Whale 'Hobo Humpin Slobo babe' is an excellent track and STILL does it on the dancefloors of the Indie/Rock clubs I play at. I remember when it came out, I was playing stuff like Janes Addiction 'Been Caught Stealing' with it along with Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc.. I think that at the moment, and probably for the last couple of years actually, the Indie/Rock/Emo stuff has crossed over big time to the public and a lot of stuff gets requested at private functions I do aswell. Everybody should have some Blur, Charlatans, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Killers, Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs, Reef, Happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc (at least) in their collections just in case. I am more than happy to help anyone out there that isn't clued up on this stuff should they need it. If you have these basic songs on a couple of cd's then you can at least do 30 mins to 45 mins of the stuff should you need to : Fallout Boy - Sugar we're going down Offspring - Self Esteem Rage Against the Machine - Killing in the name of (beware of the bad language!) Nirvana - (Just have a copy of the Best of) Kaiser Chiefs - Everyday I love you less and less, I Predict a riot Reef - Place your hands Stone Roses - Fools Gold, I am the Ressurection, Love Spreads The Charlatans - The Only one I know The Kooks - Naive, She moves in her own way, Ooh laa Happy Mondays - Step on, Kinky Affro The La's - There she goes The Killers - Somebody told me, Mr Brightside Blur - (Just have a copy of the best of) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Same as above but also, All around the World, Aeroplane, Love Rollercoaster, Tell me baby (These aren't on the best of) Panic at the Disco - I write sins, not tragedies Bloc Party - Banquet The Zutons - Valerie, Why won't you give me your love? The Bees - Chicken Payback Once again, I hope that helps. Shakermaker Promotions Indie / Rock & Alternative Specialist (But I can cater for everything else too).
