C.S 0
Just got this album , what a lot of hits she has had that i had forgotten about. She really is a pioneer within the rap /rnb genre and there are some really great tracks on this album. Worth checking out. I will try anything, once! The Cornish will arise again ! Gary 0
QUOTE (Kingy @ Sep 28 2006, 09:07 AM) This is going to sound dumb...... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif I have never been asked for a Missy Elliot Track and don't think I can name one!!! I know, I have heard the name. Flack in this direction please...... at least I am honest LOL!!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/stupid.gif I've heard (of) her, and avoid playing her music wherever possible. Loud, angry, shouting, abrasive, in-yer-face lyrics and performance - Well, except for her interuptions on the Car Wash cover with Christina Aguilera a couple of years back, and cameo-role voice overs on the Moulin Rouge track with Christina A, Pink etc... urgh.......>shiver
C.S 0
along with backwards lyrics , fantastic sampling and production, she does things that many artists would not dare, shouting ? listen again Gary. Of course you would never use it at a wedding but for those of us who do a lot of club work(and there are some here) its more or less a must. As you know i like things that move forward and are "new" but i am not saying that its for everone . Once again its kind of sad to see criticism of music that people dont personaly like,it was just a hint to people who were interested. Edited September 28, 2006 by C.S I will try anything, once! BigBen 0
I liked the Fat Boy Slim Remix of Gossip Folks, but that's about it I'm afraid. [insert quirky comment]
Gary 0
I don't believe that my comments could be viewed as criticism, just expressing an opinion C. In fact if Missy Elliot likes her performances described as "Loud, angry, shouting, abrasive, in-yer-face" then it was probably a compliment. It's not as though I said "artist X is just http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif "etc. I explained the elements of this artistes vocal style which in my opinion, validate themselves. Terms which may have been of use, as a viewpoint for those who expressed that they hadn't heard of her. And yes, of course it's horses for courses as to who might be able/want to play Missy Elliots output, and who can not. There are plenty of free-to-stream for 30seconds preview sites around for people to establish their own views - meaning that the original heads-up of her Greatest Hits album will give people a central reference to preview/stream. C.S 0
sorry Gary i read them as criticism but as you say each to their own. I will try anything, once! The Cornish will arise again ! Manager of the Andy Harris Fan Club. Keep pasties Cornish
RichardP 0
For those not too fussed about M.E., check out "4 My People" (April 2002) which was produced by Basement Jaxx ... might make you change your mind about whether you'd consider playing out one of her tracks. Stomping pop dance stuff! Well - I think so anyway. <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Danno13 0
I play 1,2 Step by Missy Elliot and Ciara quite alot. And "This is for my people (basement jaxx mix)" is also pretty good too. Revolution Discos - Covering Midlands and the Cotswolds - 01386 898 113 - 07791 261

dj.silver 0
Maybe this is a tad off topic but Missy E was at the BIC (Bournemouth International Centre) on Saturday and she didn't get a good review in the local paper. She was too much Diva and not enough performance, put in laymans terms "too far up her own back....". Relied too much on support acts, her dancers and wooing the crowd with changes of shiny baseball jackets and caps! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif I once read about the evils of heavy drinking ................ so I've stopped reading COPYWIGHT: Elmer Fudd 1956, All wights wesewved. Dave80s 0
Lose Control (the one featuring Fatman Scoop) is a good track. 4 My People also (written about her experiences on ecstasy I believe?!?). Or how about 1 minute man? I will let you work out what that one is about yourself :-)
