Gary 0
Firstly, welcome to DJs United. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/042.gif It would be difficult to offer you any improvement advice, certainly at this stage, as little is known of your show, equipment, stage layout, transport - or indeed any of the soft-skills eg: Your aspirations, you favourite types of booking, your least favourite type of booking, parts of the night that you have trouble with etc,etc... My own thoughts on playlists (except background music ones) are that if you've got it all worked out more than 3 or 4 tracks ahead, then perhaps things aren't as interactive between your audience and you as they could be. Sure, some club DJs can work out a set, practice it tune-to-tune and beat-to-beat for a fortnight before their gig, and know exactly what their playlist consists of, but at professional level, I don't think that mobile DJ's have that luxury - our sets need to be more responsive to the ever changing desires of the crowd. Anyway...by all means have a browse through the existing posts (we've just smashed through the 130 thousand posts barrier...), luckily there are some great search facilities. Feel free to add your own comments, questions and suggestions to any of those topics - or of course, start your own threads off to ask new questions. Again... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/Welcome.gif to DJs United.
EdBray 0
Hi and http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/Welcome.gif Do not be afraid to ask questions. It might be a good idea to give us some more information about yourself, (age, area based, music likes and dislikes etc). You may well find a DJ in your vicinity who would be willing to let you tag along to a gig or two. Enjoy your time on here. Eddie. Paul Smith 0
There's a number of music lists on this forum but you should treat then as 'songs to have in my collection' rather than playlists which should be made up as you go along and dependant on the crowd and what is working. It's much more fun deciding what to play next in relation to what's playing now and the reaction to it esp when the display is flashing with 10 secs to go and you haven't made a choice or have just changed your mind http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/headphone.gif I have a few lists on my site which are mainly aimed at brides (1st Dance, Popular Songs, Current Songs, Number Ones) so you could always take a peek at those too. TonyB 0
Hi Paul and welcome (I am pretty new here too). With regards to play lists, what I am doing at the moment is that I have sorted out all my tracks into genre and also year. I talk to the client before hand and build up a playlist of what they like so I at least have a plan! As the evening goes on, you get a feel for what they like (i.e. by what they dance to and the requests you get) so modify things as I go along to fit the crowd. I have listed groups of tracks that go together so if I get stuck I have some notes to refer to and also put together some practice playlists at home from reading wedding websites and other DJ's websites e.g. top 100 requested tunes (I use the free version of OTS Turntables click here on my PC to play with). I find the more you play and listen to the tracks, the more you can instantly think of the next track to play - practice makes perfect I suppose and its someting that will come automatically with experience. And my homework tonight is to simulate a 4 hour disco for a couple celebrating their 50th wedding aniversary and are into RnB and Punk. Wonder where I can get some virtual dancers from http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
