Danno13 0
Is it on a weekend night?? If so, don't knock too much off your normal weekend price as you're not going to be able to do another gig afterwards. If its a weekday night, and like me you don't normally work on these nights, then go for about £100. I had an enquiry for a 13th on a Saturday night 8-10 the other week and quoted £150 (usually £175 - 200 for any other gig), they went ahead and booked though, which i wasn't expecting. Just realised this is in the "getting started" section http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/hiding.gif , in which case, if you haven't been DJing long you'll probalby want to start off a bit cheaper than my advice above... digitaldistortion 0
I don't know.... I would be tempted to make this a freebie, and reserve the right to use it as an advertising opportunity with flyers, cards etc.! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif Cheers! Roy B. ChrisPointon 0
i wouldn't do it as a freebie, it's not like its a charity event raising money for the NSPCA or NSPCC or other cause. Besides, do one freebie and you'll get plenty of work alright - all of it for nothing!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sad.gif . Once the parents of the other kids and schools ask for recommendations and you did this one for nothing they'll want to know why you can't do theirs for free too. Personally I'd charge £80 - £100 for this depending where it was (Distance). But the only real way is to see the average price of other DJ's (and childrens entertainers) for your area and then take an average. Just because you are new to the business doesn't mean that you should consider working for nothing or be taken advantage of, and we don't get discounts off our music, insurance or running overheads just because we are new to the business or based on the type of gigs that we do, and it all has to be paid for. Don't worry the school can afford you - they'll probably recoup by charging their own kids 50p admission!. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif
digitaldistortion 0
Maybe I read the post incorrectly...I assumed it was for the school http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif Cheers! Andy Westcott 0
I do this a fair bit, but for fewer pupils - maybe 30 - 40. I do it as a freebie, and as mentioned, gets the parents familiar with you and could result in future paying work, although perhaps not for a year or two. Keep looking ahead.... In your situation I certainly wouldn't charge full price unless it was going to be a regular thing - if you don't feel at ease doing it for free then maybe charge a nominal 'cost covering' fee of 30 50 quid. Ultimately it's up to you - how well do you know the people concerned?
brianmole 0
QUOTE (digitaldistortion @ Oct 5 2006, 01:18 PM) I don't know.... I would be tempted to make this a freebie, and reserve the right to use it as an advertising opportunity with flyers, cards etc.! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif Do it the other way round, first two bookings full price, third for a discount of your choice / freebie. Have confidence and pride in your ability to supply the goods!! Pricing? No Idea, I would not do this kind of gig. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif
digitaldistortion 0
If it's a private party, then I can't see any point in charging anything other than the prices that you must have already set (even if they're only theoretical at present). If you have set a worth on yourself, and you believe that price is justified, then go for it! The laternative is (as Chris points out) that if you sell yourself short now, then you'll find it harder and harder to 'enforce' your prices in the future! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/363.gif Cheers! Paul Smith 0
The first thing I would consider before price is are you suitable to do this kind of gig? We do have a number of DJs on this forum who specialise in childrens' parties (I'm not one of them I'm afraid). OK so you are ready/able & willing to entertain 100 children for 1 1/2 hours @ £1 each per hour = £150. If the school had to hire in the equipment and do it themselves they wouldn't be able to do it much cheaper, plus they'd have to find suitable music as well.

Andy Westcott 0
It is a fair price, as you still have all the loading, unloading, setting up etc etc. BUT...... I'd look on it as a valuable promotional opportunity. That adds value to you - Jamie sums it up pretty well by saying he got 3 full price bookings out of it, and the scenario is similar for me. I njoy discos for kids of this age, as they are old enough not to want games, but young enough (in the main) to not have an aversion to a few oldies thrown in. I'm especially looking forward to the next one as it will BE DARK for at least half of the gig, and I can fire up the ultra violet - the kids love it! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
