Andy Westcott 0
That's it - done my primary school disco, and darned good fun it was too! 6:30 until 8:00 was the time, and all that humping about for free - I'm just too nice a person! (I have to tell myself this, as no-one else will) Last time I introduced the kids to Doctorin' The Tardis by The Timelords, and introduced it as 'The Doctor Who Song'. This time it was requested by several, so they remembered! I must think of another song to 'introduce' to them for the next one. There was one super little kid in particular (there were no bad ones), she calls me by name, and I had her in fits by pulling silly faces at her whenever she came up to make a request. During 'Monsters', she was singing along loudly with the chorus and pointing at me. What was she trying to suggest?? Kids of this age are great fun! Old enough to like the music, but not old enough to get snotty about what you play. I would rather do one of these for free than a teenager's disco for £150. So that's my one gig a year completed - I can now work at some serious relaxing of a weekend.... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Kane 0
Last nights disco was for a pub in a tiny village near witney called Bablock Hythe, to celebrate the end of their "Fete". And i had my first experience of an injury on the dance floor too, which was very worrying. after the evening buffet i started off with some 50's/60s rock and roll as the majority of the pub were over 60's. it then packed out the dancefloor until a little old lady took a nasty fall after someone spinned her around. i didnt relised it happened until i saw her sat down with a load of people around her, i thought that she was having a seizure or collapsed, so i quickly turned the Dynamos off and lowered the music a bit. Turns and she had broken her wrist and was rushed off to hospital to which everyoe then cleared off into the bar. so i was left playing to myself for about an hour. Then thank the lord, more villagers(hillbillys!) came down to the pub as they heard there was a disco on. then it was a success from 10:30 onwards, had some good requests for some classic dance and some party songs, so i played the usual and then had about an hour of dance classics which they loved. Floor fillers of the night were Candi Staton - You Got The Love, Supermode - Tell Me Why, Rick James - Superfreakz remix 06 and near the end The Communards - Dont Leave Me This Way which i have a video of and i will try and upload it some time today to the board/my website. only used 2 Dynamos and an acme duet last night, the space i had was tiny, but still looked great. All in all, apart from the incident earlier everyone had a great time, and handed out a few cards. Had a chat with DJ Stu/Bubbles/Mr Two Roadies on the way home, he was packing up when i phoned, said to him can you talk and he said yeh i got two roadies tonight!, although i think i spent must of the time saying can you hear me? cheap bluetooth earpieces VIDEO Edited October 22, 2006 by Kane

shakermaker 0
Freaky ! Freaky ! I did the Request Fest on saturday night. The night was great and there were a few new faces there and they were saying how good it was to go out and ask a dj for tunes that he would actually play no matter what it was! I gave a few cards out too which was cool. The reason I say "freaky! freaky!" is because I also played Meat Loaf 'Paradise by the dashboard light' as it was requested. The week before I did a retro night in a venue down the road and when I played it there everyone was up for it big style. On saturday I played it and I could see the looks on a lot of the punters faces as it went into its 5th minute... "Have you had enough now!?" I said and I was greeted with a huge YESSSSS!!! from the crowd..."Thank **** for that!" I said... (I can get away with language like that as it's my local and the clientel ranges from 18 to 50 and everyone knows me). Best tune of the night for me? You won't believe this but it was Rolf Harris - 2 little boys (remember it IS Request Fest!). Shakermaker Promotions Indie / Rock & Alternative Specialist (But I can cater for everything else too). DJ Marky Marc 0
Saturday I turned up to do an 18th and thought I had the wrong venue... huge marqee, chocolate fountain, ice cream bar, red carpet through the entrance.. waiter service for the tables.. had to ask if this was a wedding or not..... anyway turns out it was a birthday so we draged all the gear inside and setup... I dont think ive ever seen so much money spent on an 18th birthday ever... guests all arricing late due to not being able to find the place in the dark, but soon enough the marquee was filling up... On or two of the guests dont seem to understand what BLACK TIE means but that was over looked so as not to spoil the fun... I over heard the waiters being told not to serve any more alcohol to one of the tables due to them being a little worse for ware, but there was zero trouble.. Prodesional photography lasted about 30 min.. all the guests had to line up and pose... Dance floor filled including the parents, and the classic cheesy music kept them all busy for the first couple of ours... then requests came in for pendulum and indee music so we changed it arround a little and turned it up http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif first class night with a big cash tip at the end http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Tonsk 0
Thursday - Had a 12th Bday party in a marquee connected to the celebratees house.. Had a good night with probably the best behaved 12 years olds I have worked with in ages.. Only trouble was the mummy wrap game where the kids were trying to steal each others bin bags so the toilet roll ended up everywhere..... Friday - Wedding reception. The B&G had got married abroad (on a cruise ship which docked in Rome to do the official ceremony) and had a party for their friends.. Aweful night. The B&G had given me a list of indie/charty dance with a couple of cheese tracks thrown in and luckily they loved that I played their music. The rest of the audience didn't want to be there so left early, no matter what I played (as I went and asked them what they wanted!) - Bride told me she had expected what happened and had got married abroad to ensure the whole day wasnt like it either. Even her best friend arrived an hour late and went home 1.5 hours early to goto the pub..... Very sad but the B&G apologised for the lack of dancing and their guests leaving saying it wasn't me that caused it, but that they had had a great night listening to the music that they liked.... Saturday had 2 functions - Kiddies party (6) and a wedding. The kids party went well (its the one I needed the lazer for - although only used a couple of small lazer crabs, the kids didnt even notice the lazer!) lots of games, dances etc but it went on too long (booked for three hours!) Then 25mins pack down, drove off to the next function, setup and start at 7 till 12. It was a shotgun wedding with not many requests and not that much dancing, but the B&G were VERY pleased, with cards requested and people thanking me for a great night - so must've been better than I thought it was....... Now I have no gigs until the 4th November.....
