digitaldistortion 0
Well.......................................... Garage was nicked from a genre of music that's been around since the early/mid 60's, see my avatar, this, these, or these for prime examples of the ORIGINAL genre. :flirt: http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/party/party0048.gif http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/party/party0024.gif You're right, and you're wrong. What was originally garage (and that spans an AWFUL lot more mainstream bands than are mentioned here), and what garage came to mean are two totally different types of music. Artists mentioned now include: The Streets, Dizzee Rascal, Lemar AND Corinne Bailey Rae. SO, TO SUM IT UP: IT'S A TOTAL MISNOMER! :dan: Cheers! Roy B. I just reel off a list of the bands containd on the CDs mentioned above, they usually bugger off with a confused look on their face never to bother me again. Anyway as welshyDJ18 states, were not all garage/R&B driven & the office tends to weed out any functions that are. I'm out virtually every Friday & Saturday without having to worry about the sheep. You're right, and you're wrong. SO, TO SUM IT UP: IT'S A TOTAL MISNOMER! :dan: Do you know, I was wondering why I didn't like any of the Garage compilations I've got that don't have 1960's copyright on the tracks. Misnomer? It's not a misnomer, it's THEFT of a genre title pure & simple I don't think the bulk of people who ask for (modern / UK) garage even actually know what they're asking for, it seems to be a very confused genre Next time somebody asks for some garage ask them what they want. Most will reply "dunno?" & only seem to ask for it because they think it's what they should ask for to be "cool " Steve... Ian Stewart 0
Yep, I've noticed this throughout the year, with a number of weddings where UK garage made up a huge part of the night. this is why it's so important to listen and buy all types of new music, because todays trendy dance music, will be the mobile anthems in a few years time Mobile Party DJ For Weddings Parties Corporate Events Covering London Essex Kent Sussex Surrey Bucckinghamshire Hertfordshire & Essex

wizard 0
Unfortunately I have noticed the same thing this summer. It's generally ok for those that like it, but yer average granny and mother in law at a wedding hate it. Hence the "put some motown on Luvvy" requests. A couple of weeks ago when i was last asked to "play some garage" I gave my usual responce....... anything in particular ?? to which he said ..... yeah mate anything by oasis or Kaiser Chiefs The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops
Paul Forsyth 0
I've only had a couple so far, and had a good dance floor response to it. I think it's good to be able to find even a small set of most genres, and important to know what might be coming up request wise. I, like many get confused with some newer dance genres - and like most, I agree that the public also seem confused - but with the great knowledge base here, we can all at least have a little something up our sleeves. Sometimes all that's needed is to ask for a few pointers from someone that knows and likes the genre (as I certainly have), and you may be pleasently surprised. C'mon - lets have a few pointers for; 1 - Garage 2 - UK garage  Vinnie Paul Forsyth The DJ formally known as Vinnie

Eskie 0
Misnomer? It's not a misnomer, it's THEFT of a genre title pure & simple Well, not really. In the 80's at The Paradise Garage club in NY where DJ Larry Levine was playing a very different sound to everywhere else and so the music became known as Garage cos it was played in the Paradise Garage. The kids that went there and coined the term had probably never heard of the original music style called Garage in their lives, so to say it's theft is a little strong IMO. Anthony Winyard Entertainment www.awe-dj.co.uk, Entertaining London & the South-East! Disco24-7 0
Yes, I've said it before on this site, but the Rock 'n' Roll generation are on their last legs with regards to music at Weddings. The simple fact is that I often get asked to avoid RnR, Country and Easy Listening music during parties. A sign of the times? NOPE...We're all getting older! Acid House Afternoon Tea Parties are only a decade or two away...can't wait..."Put your walking sticks in the air and say party...err Help, I need the toilet"...
