Kingy 0
Did the first of many Xmas parties last night at one of my residencies. 420 in a marquee, great night with an Elvis tribute band. As I am supplying the PA i am effectively on more than double money for this December!! Last nights rig had 8x 15" bins and 4 x 12" tops front of house with 6 monitors on stage. And the Martin lighting rig is on hire from a firm, driven by a FAT FROG controller. Ho Ho Bleedin' Ho!!

shakermaker 0
Well, what can I say - What a night last night. I hired a venue in Basingstoke for the return of my Indie / Alternative night 'Shakermaker' having finished in Southampton. It's a 200 capacity venue and was half full at 9.30pm. By 10.45pm it was at capacity and people queueing outside. Absolutely brilliant atmosphere and a great night. What's even better is that once I had paid for the hire and my doorstaff, I walked away with the more than the equivalent of 2 christmas parties!! Bed at 6am, up at 10am to set up for a christmas party tonight for someone else and now I am chilling until I have to go out and do my night tonight......Yawn...ZZZZZZzzzzz.... Cheers Shakermaker Promotions Indie / Rock & Alternative Specialist (But I can cater for everything else too).
TonyB 0
Exciting 16th party tonight. Turned up at the hall at 7pm for 8pm start and no sign of the client. Turned out they had hired a small hall, well a meeting room really, at the side. Acoustics were terrible but didn't get in until 7.30 and was a rush to set up and couldn't do a proper sound check but I think it sounded alright. Had a panic where no sound was coming out the speakers to start with. Thought an amp had blown and was going to channel everything through one amp but luckily my Roadie notice the plug for the GEQ wasn't pushed in properly - I was sure the on LED was alight :aa . I blame it on my illness! They were all remarkably well behaved and extremely polite, a couple even asked if I would like a drink (all non alcoholic of course). Its really nice to see a group of youngsters be so respectful. Lot of head banging stuff but they didn't really come alive until Don't stop me Now by Queen, then I Don't Feel Like Dancing into Macarena then Mambo No.5 and a few other Cheesy tracks. Only request all night was Cha Cha Slide! Youth of today - they are so unpredictable.

DJGAVT 0
I must admit I had a pretty average friday and Saturday night, only had about 75 people each night. The room does not help as the disco, the restaurant and the bar are each in different rooms. Here is a pic of my set up: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/7805/xmas2qq2.th.jpg Of course both nights they decided to all get up with 20 minutes to go and then complained when I had finished! :paula:
EdBray 0
Well, I survived my first primary school xmas disco/party this afternoon. 1pm - 4pm. I actually quite enjoyed it :dan+ju: Thy had their food when they first arrived for about half an hour, then we played a few party games, musical statues, musical bumps, pass the parcel and that newspaper one (they all liked that) thanks whoever suggested that  Then we played some disco music and had prizes for the best male and female dancers and then played a few party songs, again prizes for the best Macerana (boy and girl). Most requested song "Monster" The Automatics. Best danced to song "Oops Upside your head" All in all a good gig, and apart from a few of the younger kids getting bored in the last 30 minutes I would do it again. Lesson learnt: 2.5 hour maximum for a kids disco/party. Certainly better supported than last nights gig. Leonna 0
Friday - pretty good crowd, absolutley packed. Couldn't use the mic much as mentioned, but night went OK but not as well as I had hoped. Saturday - Swapped the mic with one of mine that has on/off switch. New lights looked good. Another packed night, great crowd, loads of good tunes going out, interaction with the crowd was great fun, giving out loads of free drinks vouchers. 1 group in particular was well up for anything and they were all probably late 50's early 60's one of their group won a prize for sexiest male mover to You sexy thing. Everyone gathered round him and watched him shake his thing. Another top moment was getting one of the audience to strip for a lady celebrating her hen night, after a reluctant start he was off up on table with some audience participation with ayoung lady. Luckily he didn't do the Full Monty tongue out icon. Have been trying a music quiz type thing, but they don't seem to get the idea so will try a christmas quiz this Saturday. I will also be trying out my new 'santa' outfit :fear: .
digitaldistortion 0
Sunday is a day off watching West Ham clobber Everton (fingers crossed). Sorry, Shakermaker. Wasn't to be.... I don't know what game the BBc pundits were watching: Pardew can take a lot of positives away from this match, etc.... I personally thought they barely turned up. And before you think I'm being sarky... been an 'ammer for over 30 years (since the beginning of the bad 70s, and remember it well - fighting (literally) your way across London on a Saturday because Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs (who?) were playing at home as well) Cheers! NeilH 0
Saturday, we ran our own fancy dress party, called MishMash at the Movies, at a venue of capacity 250. Sold most tickets the week before, then charged double for people buying on the door. All in all, a very good night. Not a hint of trouble, atmosphere was amazing all night. Made a profit of 10 times what we hired the venue for. Now begins the preparation for the new year party. Estimated profit for that party.... well into 4 figures.
