Most decent amps should be happy running mismatched loads. I run splits on my smaller rigs as its less amps to carry, subs on one side topes on other.

The Behringer EP2500 falls quite a way short of the required 1000w @ 4R that the OP specified.

Have you looked at the Matrix STR series? There are still some about and the STR3000h gives 1000w at 8R and 1500w at 4R per channel and they are good and reliable. Can be had for around £400. PM if you want a contact for someone who still has some.

what is the point of 2ohms for mobiles
Remember that if you bridge a 2 channel amp into a 4 ohm cabinet, the amp will 'see' the equivalent to a 2 ohm load. Bridging is a good way to get some reasonable wattage outputs without using gigantic amplifiers.
It's also useful to know that one amp could power all of your speakers if one amp failed in a bi-amped system. - Not recommended for the long term life of an amp, but would get you through the night.

I have to admit i havent heard of samson ... may give them a look ...... but crown is looking like the favourite at the moment.

Oh and I am not changing them just in case............. new car and cambelt ??????

I am selling the car ( amps ) while can still get good money for them rather than running them into the ground.

I just like to keep my kit under 2 years old.............. like some people do with cars whilst we are on the car analogy.

more money than sense.............. maybe.

I am lucky that I do not do it for a living................so all the money I make gets ploughed back into the business. It's a hobby........ no, correction it's an obsession

Been there, done that !!

The best amps you can buy IMO are MC2 amp (HERE), THE 1250 series comes with a 5 year warranty too, so no need toreplace after 2 years.

.....but what do I know ?

Hey!!

Hands off McCardle's 'Get your rocks off' link!

That is the same model amp I started DJing with - 50 watts if it has the higher HT voltage, which this looks like it has by the look of the mains transformer.

I still find it hard to believe one of these was loud enough for most gigs!

It had two inputs on the side, high and low gain, both feeding the first stage, the 'low gain' input via a resistor divider to drop the level.

I didn't like this at all, and later wired it straight to the grid of the second stage, (via a capacitor and the level control of course) and fitted the low level control between the first and second stage so i could turn down the noise from the first stage. From what I recall, it sounded better that way as well as having a lower noise floor. See? The things you can do if you have open plan wiring!

OK, OK, I realise 98% of you wouldn't know a thermionic valve grid if it pinged you on the nose, so I'll go away now. :hurt:

I remember a Scout Troup I belonged to had one of those powering four speakers in the main hall which was rather large. The speakers were in wooden boxes with perforated hardboard fronts mounted just below the cieling. We used to wire our record players into it for the Christmas party. If I remember rightly, the inputs were coaxial type plugs like you find on a TV aerial. If you turned the volume up too high, the speakers really sounded distorted.

The inputs on mine were standard 1/4 inch jacks;

As for the distortion, it was only 50 watts after all........ :D

Yes.. I know the prices are not cheep but a decent crown amp will last you a life time not just a couple of years..

I have a Carlsbro powerline 2000 ( 1Kw per channel at 4ohms ) they can be had for around £299 new. Whilst they are not in the Crown League I believe they are great for the money.

Behringer ep2500, based around the crown series. Best bang for your buck !

they are in now way based on a crown.. the only thing they have in common is the word amp in the product discription and a mains plug
