I'm guessing a few of us do similar things when it comes to New Years Eve and the lead up to midnight and then onwards....so, what 3 songs did you play straight after Auld Lang Syne??

I did the countdown and then Auld Lang Syne and followed it with -

U2 - New Years Day

The Automatic - Monster

Jeff Beck - Hi Ho Silver Lining

I must say, it was a really varied age group but out of those 3 tracks...The Automatic went down the best, followed by Hi Ho Silver Lining.

After Auld Lang Syne:

LuLu "Shout"

Jackie Wilson "Reet Petite"

Chubby Checker "Let's Twist Again"

All went down a storm, but anything you play immediately after midnight does.

The vast majority of the guests were 60+ with a hand full in their late 40's and 50's.

Nice selection.... I usually go for upbeat after the arm crossing song (lol) as it seems do most of our coleagues but I like the idea of maybe bringing it down a bit like the above.... Did you loose them when you ramped it back up or did they stay on the floor

I've always found that people drift off the floor just after midnight on NYE, or worse still stay on the dancefloor, but stop dancing and just stand there...while calling, or txting their family and friends - so I play to that characteristic - (maybe for NYE 2007 I'll invest in a £130 local mobile phone jammer and a timeswitch to eliminate this interuption tongue out icon - the same device will help on quiz nights too...)

Well, it seemed that this 2nd set of slowies of the evening (the songs that is, not the punters in zimmerframes), was infectious, during these tracks, people would drag their partner up to me as they did that well known "turn-around-slowly-while-cuddling-with-your-eyes-shut" dance, and say "Could you also play Eric Clapton: Wonderful Tonight - in a minute...and "Our song is : Neilson: Without you - can you bung that on...?", "'Ow about Lady in Red young man...?" (Reply: "I'll take one in any colour thanks...")

So...the smoochies went on (and on) until about 12:35 (ok 6 or so songs).... But then, I took them slowly back uptempo with "I've had the time of my life", "Simply the best", "Brown eyed girl", "Build me up buttercup", "Mustang Sally" and "oh what a night"... which then got us back up to dancing speeds again... dispite several predictions from various sources, including myself, the dear souls partied on and on, indeed by 2:30am, only around 50 of the original 200 had drifted off to Ovaltine/Horlicks land -at which point, the venue told me to call it a day (or a night) at 3am...

Fantastic... I have tried playing some smoochie songs mid gig when the floor is a bit slow it sometimes changes the mood a little and gets folk on the floor... I dont think smoochies should always be saved till the end... Light and shade as they say....

Sounds like you had a good night and the sort of night I like... I love playing some of the stuff not associated with disco... Played some Gene pitney and Dean Martin the other night went down a storm.....

I do like my cheese though....

Changing disco name to Wallis and Gromit Discotheque....

Went from Auld Lang Syne into New York/ Summer Nights/ Chelsea Dagger / Reach.

Avoided Hokey Cokey as it was too crowded and might have been a bit dodgy. :ads:

Slowed them down again at about 1-15 so they left singing but not to hyped up.

You want me to play what?
