seems like a nice bloke - Crowd look like they're having fun - testemant to the fact that you don't need the best equipment money can buy to get the guests on teh dancefloor!!

Good idea - perhaps people on here who have video cameras could do similar of some of their gigs - would be fun to watch!!

Yeah I'm up for that. I like the idea of it and if it's ok with the punters then I'll do it.

Actually, I have another one of my Indie nights this week so may do it then.

Good idea and welcome to Ellaskins.

Very interesting Video... I was going to pick flies with this guy left right and centre but then I saw the people dancing and thought well he has done the trick... No matter what you think of his kit his attitude etc the guy did the job and well done to him for putting himself in the fireing line...

People who are going to post and pick out the bad bits of this video remember this The crowd had a good time from what we saw on the video....

We all do things our own way and the only way to measure it is by our own success...

He seems to be Successful so what more needs to be said...... Now let the torent of abuse begin

"....and on the way home, listen to some proper music."

What??

Two points to make about the videa, as constructive criticism for anyone else who wants to attempt this:

Too much about the venue. Nice place and all that, but not really interested.

Not enough real information about this type of gig, and the gig itself featured only very briefly.

Other than that, respect for bothering in the first place.

Oh, and don't knock the oldies - current music had its roots there. It isn't uncool to like this kind of stuff. smile icon

"Never been to the venue before...."

Me thinks that definately needs addressing.

The vid though was ok.

Interesting - although our friend has fallen into this generalisation that everyone at weddings just wants cheesey music.

I have used You Tube for videos then advise people that they are there and are welcome to use them but i like the idea of following a whole day as this might show people how hard we work as DJ's

Seems like a nice fella and as nik mentioned its all about the people, and there were certainly having a good time by the looks of things.

Altough I did cringe when I see the guest putting there glasses on his speakers and drink being spilt all over them. :dan+ju:

Good Job

Well done.

From what is shown on the video they are all having a good time, and at the end of the day that is what its all about.

Why not?

Top marks for bothering to do it in the first place.

"....and on the way home, listen to some proper music."

What??

Whats wrong with that? I can play soul, house, cheese all night long (and enjoy it), but on the way home you can be sure that there will be Nickelback or something similar trying to shake my doors off!!!! We all have our preferences.

That reminds me, must make a couple of laminateds for the speaker area.....'These are loudspeakers. Do not confuse them with bar tables or urinals, as the consequences can be quite painful'

(Or something like that....)

And its NOT always possible to do a pre job site visit...but maybe our database of halls will give the info needed anyway (eventually)

Cheers!

Just wanted to follow this up.......do you go to every venue before the night to see what it's like? (that's a genuine question not a challenge!)

My opinion (and feel free to ignore it) is that this, although in an ideal world may give you slight benifits of having seen the room etc, it pretty impractical and i can't really see the point - surely one of the skills of a mobile DJ is the ability to adapt to any space you're given wether it be a big stage or a corner of someone's sitting room! It would also be impractical in this instance seeing that he mentioned that the gig was 2 hours away or something like that! Just my thoughts!

I enjoyed watching that.. Well done to that man. A nice chap, arranged his day so he wouldn`t be late for the gig, turned out he was early so full marks...Also got the dance floor full.

Someone mentioned he was new on this forum so welcome along buddy..Now you are here you will get lots of tips..

My first observation is..

1st. You mentioned you don`t make a decent living doing your disco`s..

2nd The venue in the video looked like it was quite upper class.

So it makes me wonder are you charging enough? If you are getting these kind of venues it may be worth investing in some more clean and tidy kit, you admitted yourself it wasn`t the best..

Stick around this forum, get some good advise from other members improve your kit and am certain you WILL make a decent living from doing wedding discos..

All the best mate

Yeah, agreed - good to watch how someone else does it.

DJ'ing is a bit of a solitary occupation, isn't it? - I mean, I often get punters asking "do you know DJ so and so - he DJ's at such and such". And I DONT know the guy - as I DJ every Friday and Saturday evenings, I can't possibly be at his gig too!

At one time, when I was attached to an agency, we would have showcases every month or so, or the agent would arrange a system manufacturer to display his wares in a hall in our area - this meant that all of us in the agency met there and got to know each other and share ideas, comments on equipment etc. Now I'm an "idependent" I no longer get to do this, and the only contact I have with other DJ's is over the phone to pass on gigs or at the local DJ shop. Oh and on this forum of course! :D

I agree with Dynamite discos, it could be fun to video a typical night's work, from loading the vehicle to parking it up again at the end of the night. It might show potential customers, also, the amount of work, time and monetary investment we put in to make their night a success.

Any takers?

Clive.

Yes good idea alright...Pity im still not djing in the lapdancing clubs:)

To bring a camcorder into a gig would look a bit naff if i had booked a dj but from a dj point of view YES good idea.

Did you see in the video people had left drinks on the speakers???

Id go mental and take the drinks off if that was me:)
