Paul Smith 0
Want to know what Kanes' plans are for 2007? You'll just have to read on. 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? Kane 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Kane Anderson, 18, Nr Oxford, now single and loving it 3. What is the Name of your Disco? Astoria Sound & Light 4. How long have you been a DJ? 2/3 years, 1 of those years was roadying and learning the “tricks n the trade” with another DJ I've known for yonks. 5. What inspired you to become a DJ I’ve always loved music, and whilst roadying and learning, I loved seeing the reaction to the crowd, when you put on a song which is a guaranteed floor filler, 6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union? Nope, but I have to get round to joining SEDA some time. 7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc) Weddings, anniversaries and 18ths . 8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience? I had a bad throat all day during one Saturday in December, and I went to introduce the evening and say any requests please do come and ask etc… and I ended up coughing over the mike, so I quickly played the song that I had cued up, luckily making a joke of it after, which in the end turned out to be a great evening, (see applecart Christmas doo 15/12/2006 under my gallery) 9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself) Yellow pages, all I get is cold callers from Pakistan asking if I want a timeshare etc…..complete waste of time. 10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"? I'm down to earth and you can 100% trust me, Basically to sum me up in 3 words I'm friendly, reliable and professional, feel free to use that as a slogan:P 11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why? Chauvet nebula for £50 from someone, which I'm constantly trying to flog to some mug on here and the “other forum”, 12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be? A new mirror for one of my acme dynamos, a new mixer in the next couple of months (denon DN-X500). hopefully change to Virtual DJ by the summer. 13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? Some people say they want a disco that sets itself up, but lets be realistic, that’s never gonna happen, so I want some trussing that’s actually possible to set up by yourself, without the use of roadies/venue staff. 14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig? None yet, touch wood, just the occasional bulb blowing. 15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? Being in control, the buzz at the end of the night, the atmosphere, this has probably been mentioned in interviews hundreds of times, so I won’t go into detail. 16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Cold nights, lugging the gear about, rude people, but it's all in the job 17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? Going deaf is my biggest worry 18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? Wireless DMX, More DJS will use computers, the £50 djs will hopefully be phased out. 19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? Are you the DJ are you etc… but some pompous bar tender last year, kept coming out with sarcastic and arrogant comments whilst I was setting up about my age, my rig, and being stereotypical. So in the end I just gave him a load back, not being rude of course, but he came up at the end of the night looking sheepish saying what a great night it was and apologizing. 20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? Taping cables down should be your first priority, be yourself and speak clearly on the microphone 21. And worst advice you were ever given? Play grandmaster party megamixes, the audience wont know the difference 22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer) Smiths, HMV, play.com etc… 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you! Communards – Don’t Leave Me This Way Village People – YMCA *Rolls eyes* Macarena 24. One piece of advice you'd give to someone just starting out. Research, don’t rush and buy stuff, that when you use, will sound/look completely naff, Join DJU and read articles on here. 25. What medium format do you mainly use eg vinyl, CD, hard-drive? CD’s, but hopefully hardrive soon, once I sort out other money matters 26. Have you embraced/adapted any ideas that you've read about on DJU? Tidying cables, reading reviews before buying, on the review section, Computer djing. 27. What is your best gig ever and your worst? Best - The Christmas period doing the Friday and Saturdays at the applecart from the 08/12 to the 22/12 (see the videos on my website) Worst – Abingdon F.C, NO ONE was in the party mood, they just sat and talked all evening. 28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco? Word of mouth, my website and referrals, yellow pages is useless. 29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action) Nope, touch wood. 30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here... Since joining DJU 2 years ago I've learnt a lot of tips and good advice from members here, I just need to join SEDA now, and start meeting some of you ol’ codgers and seeing how its done hehe:P 31. What is your average charge for a booking? £120-£200, I wouldn’t want to risk giving the client a conary by quoting something ridiculous like £350. How many tracks do you have in your music collection? To many, but roughly 2 cases, which one hopefully consist of one hardrive soon.
