Andy Westcott 0
What's a blank vinyl? If you have a disc which has only been pressed on one side, and smooth on the other, this is exactly what you should expect to happen. The anti-skate is to counteract the tendency of the arm to be pulled inwards by its offset, but as you don't have the stylus tracking a groove, the friction isn't there to produce a substantial pull, so the anti-skate wins and the arm comes outwards. Best way to adjust the anti-skate is to simulate real life situations: Bung on a record, and whilst playing it, tap the record to make the stylus jump. Adjust the anti-skate until the stylus tends to jump more or less equally in either direction, with no greater tendency to jump either in or out. Mind you, if you do a lot of back-queing, it might be beneficial to set the anti-skate at a lower force, otherwise the stylus will leap back when you turn the turntable backwards. Experiment to find the best compromise.
Gary 0
Vinyl - now theres a word you rarely hear anymore....especially spelt correctly. Mind you, I still take out one SL1210 with me to gigs, just in case someone asks for a track that I've only got on vinyl. I've known of the Anti-skate control to come loose from the actual mechanism underneath. Try this: Use the lever to raise the tone arm above the vinyl. Move the tone arm to half way through its travel (eg: where it would be 3 minutes into a 6 minute track) lift the tone arm carefully by a further inch, and release it As it "lands" on the raise/lower lever mech, it should usually bounce one way, or the other way. Turn the Anti-skate all the way one way, and repeat the above drop...if the anti-skate is working, the tone arm will travel to one side. Adjust the Anti-skate to the extreme other side, and the tone arm should bounce that way instead. Also...try a different stylus.
DJ Marky Marc 0
Also back the weight right off when setting the deck up and only add as much weight as needed.. Less is more... to many DJ have the weight on back to front and add coins all because they think wrongly that they need it..
