Norfolk DJ 0
Usually when considering buying some new gear, I browse through many offers called 'ex-demo'. these as a rule are 10% - 25% cheaper than the shop suppliers. Whilst there are some great genuine ex demo offers out there, is it true to say that there are alot of them, or are some of these really 'second hand' and as such the price should be lower? I think there is also a distinction between demo and shop disply. demo suggests items have been 'gigged' whilst shop dislplay have remained in the shop. any thoughts and how much do you expect to save on ex demo stuff? any problems people have noticed when buying demo stuff they have not seen on-line? Steve_Mitchell 0
This type of gear could also be called B stock. B stock however could also mean the box of the product is damaged.... I think ex demo gear doesn`t leave the shop...A potential buyer of a certain product may want to see the item working (demo). A shop keeper would be a fool to let someone take an expensive product out of the shop to be seen in action. Good luck. Steve 5 European cups and 18 leagues, that`s what we call history. Andy Westcott 0
I agree. Ex-demo not to be confused with ex-rental. Should be fine.
norty303 0
If its proper pro gear then ex demo could mean its been gigged. If i want to try out some prospective new amps, there are a number of the major manufacturers who will bring a rack to a gig so i can test in a real environment, and A-B test against current stuff. mikeee 0
But, If it's pro gear, being "gigged" once or twice won't make the slightest bit of difference, if anything it's an advantage, if it's likely to have a fault, it will have been found and fixed or it won't be for sale in the first place. ..playing all the hits for you... ....whether you may be.... Why can't I see what i going on???
ian . 0
It may have a fault thats just developing as a result of being gigged though. Must agree that 'demo' can mean has been taken on the road, unless the supplier can assure you otherwise. As long as your getting the exact same warranty as the equivalent new item though, shouldn't be an issue at all - in fact its better because you can haggle the price of demo's down due to small scratches etc... Never pay the marked price. Thats when you get a bargain.
norty303 0
It may have a fault thats just developing as a result of being gigged though. If its good gear it probably won't have though, and will be backed up by a decent warranty from the manufacturer, even if the supplier won't extend one. Knowing that a QSC PL6 has been out and ragged to within an inch of its life for 20 gigs wouldn't put me off buying it in any way.
