I have just produced 50 or so Flyers.

I did this using my own PC and by printing them off on a thick paper. (This is something I wouldnt have done, knowing the probable cost, but my partner insisted on making the first batch like this until we have sufficient funds to get some professionally made). The flyers have ended up costing us at least 55p each!! I know there are some online places that would make either 500 or 1000 for £80 (i cant remember which number). Now my partner realises the issue I had with making them this way.

One thing I wonder is this...

Where do I post my flyers?

I'm not sure if I should research the pubs/hotels/venues that already provide entertainment (they will most probably have a license), or if I should look at those places that have little entertainment on offer. Doing the latter would mean that the room may be there for us to help improve the entertainments at the particular venues. However, surely the more successful venues are those that already provide entertainment?

The market I aim aiming for is mainly Karaoke, but where there is hall space etc. we would love to also provide Disco's etc. Also, I am wondering if it is best to target those places that are located nearer the town centre, or to target those larger venues located all over the borough - in the countryside too.

At 55p a Flyer I want to maximise our chances of getting a few gigs.

What do people think on this matter?

Thanks in anticipation.

Search the small adds in mix mag and DJ mag for people doing 10,000 flyers for something silly like £100

make sure you put these flyers in somones hand don't leave them laying arround or on windscreens..

Introduce your self and giv them a flyer they will remember you and are more likely not to throw it away..

Have you tested your flyers for dampness? ie if you have printed them using an inkjet printer then don't have them in newsagents windows because the first bit of condensation will make them unreadable.

I'd like to see one - can you upload to one of the photo hosting sites and put a link here?

IMO to get a decent flyer and am not saying your arn`t decent. I think its easier, cheaper and more professional looking to send your design to a proper printers.

I do intend to get them professionally done. We just wanted a quick simple method of getting some quick business because we've only been operating for a few months. As I said above, I'd never normally try printing them myself! way too expensive. Just gota get some business in, so that we have the funds to get them professionally done online using one of the many deals on offer.

Handing them to a person rather than posting them is a good idea. Main question after that point is which places to target to maximise chances of getting some business? (I only have 50 right now)

This is a sample of the batch of flyers I have made, please note - I do not intend to make any more like this - I will be getting them professionally done.

I agree that getting someone else to do them is a lot less hassle.

I like them though they look ok to me but flyers might need to be water proof as people tend to carry them around in back pockets etc

I personaly hand deliver my information to every venue i can find! Even if they do their own entertainments, they are usualy more than happy to stick up a poster and put some cards on the bar!

One of the best use for flyers is at a wedding fayres. You can purchase one of theses perspex stands for about £4 and stick them inside. We use when we advertise the chair covers and they go like hotcakes.

We use local printers for all our printing needs,

Prefer to keep it local and as there a small business they offer good rates and fast service, recently i needed some ad posters making up found out on the saturday afternoon for a gig that night, went to see him at half 2 and by 4:45 pm all sorted.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've done loads of cheap and cheerful flyers in the past, usually we handed them out at large car boot sales, or Sunday markets and the like, and there's always a selection on top of the bass bins at any function we do, along with the business cards, and I personally believe that they do get us work.

I can't fathom out why it cost you so much to make those up, but I personally think that you've used too much colour so that increases the ink cost massively. Experiment with minimal colour (centre of page logo maybe) mainly black on white if you're ever inclined to print them yourself again, and use a speelchucker....... first impressions are very valuable, and bad spelling and punctuation gives a lousy initial impression.

Also, try putting a land-line number first, with a mobile as a 24hr number, and make sure they get answered. A good idea is to just get a freebie sim card from somewhere, chuck it in a cheap s/h mobile, and use that number for only disco calls, carry it everywhere with you.

To be brutally honest, because of the bad spelling and punctuation I would bin those and put it down to experience. If you send them out to prospective customers they may just do more harm than good.
