Dave80s 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Report Share Posted March 19, 2007 Hi there, the ents manager at my regular venue has made a few changes, and the long and short of it is that I am considering becoming an agent. - the plan being that I supply DJs, pay them and invoice him. Any agents on here? The organising of the nights and personnel is sorted, just the business side needs looking at. How difficult would this be, any pitfalls from a business point of view? If you are paying a DJ, do you have a responsibility to ensure that they pay tax on the earnings? Link to post Share on other sites

Two different bank accounts required, water tight contracts for the client and the DJ (the DJ will be responsible for paying taxes as you won't employ him, just sub to him) Mikeee is the best man to talk to if you can afford the phone bill. tongue out icon .....but what do I know ? Cheeky Blighter Hi Dave, First point of call is the DTI web site, look up Employment agencies and inwardly digest the Employment Agencies Act 1973 and the Conduct of Employment Agencies Act 2003. There are a stack of others that most business have to follow as well (Disability, Discrimination etc ect). I won't go into two much detail as the DTI cover it all, but there are two ways of operating, one is as an Employment Agency - The contract in between the Artiste and the Client and you take a commission, normally around 15%, the second is an Employment Business where the contracts are between you and the client and you and the artiste, you pay the artiste for doing a job, and you invoice the client for the fee, this is also known as Buy and Sell. You do not work for a commission but a fee, and within reason that can be as much as you want. That depends on how you set the business up, but if you use them as Self Employed Sub Contractors then it shouldn't be an issue. ..playing all the hits for you... ....whether you may be.... Eg are they self-employed or employees of your business; you need to know to avoid the bill landing on your doormat! Second point, make sure you pay your workers quickly.
