Having now decided not to use mp3s with the new Denon HD2500 (when I get it!), i have started to rip my cds to .wav files. As I have had other problems, I decided to just rip one album to try it out.

I ripped it using Audiograbber, which very nicely added the title/artist as the filename.

Then I went to Tag & Rename to add the tag.

I used the "tag name from file name option" - seemed to work fine.

Then just to be daring, I added the album name and the year of release using the "Multi-file tag editor" feature.

Great - all the tags seem to be in place (according to Tag & Rename anyway!!)

Go to Denon DJ Annoyer Software... no tags!

What have I done wrong this time???

I have to say, I am NOT a computer whizz, I use it for what I can, and thats it, but I am struggling like hell with this software... OTSDJ didnt cause me anywhere near this many issues!!!

Because I prefer to keep control of my music, the Auto-DJ function annoys the hell out of me.

And I like the feel of a proper chunky "PLAY" button, not a little mouse click.

Don't get me wrong, OTSDJ is staying as a back up system, it's ideal for background music and the like, but for a disco I prefer the feel and control the Denon seems to be offering.

The product itself (the HD2500) looks very promising, it's just the teething problems I am having setting the damned thing up.

In audiograbber theres a little tick box called "append ID3 tags to Wav file" (or something like that)

Is/Was that ticked?

Thanks for that Gary, but I cant find that option anywhere.

Also, the tags were created in Tag & Rename, not Audiograbber.

Any more ideas??

When you sa that "all" the tags are in Tag&rename, is it just the artist and songname?

I suspect that Tag & rename may have simply calculated the artist name and track name from the format of the filename eg: anything in front of a hyphen is considered to e the artist name, anything after the artist is considered to be the song title.

I'll have a look at my screens on Audiograbber for that "append tags to wav file" option, although I thought it was on a toolbar high to the left on the main screen.

Also, I'll let you know soon how your DN-HD2500 can easily be your number 1 background music player too.

Ok, not sure where I got that "top left corner" vision from...

To enable Audiograbber to get all the tag metadata for you from the internet CDDB database and then include that data on your WAV files do this...

* Go to Settings:

* Go to MP3 settings (Bizarre)

* Tick the box which says "Append ID3 info to WAV file (for future use)

Thanks Gary, once again you rescue a lost soul in Denon DJ Music Manager Land.

The Denon software now recognises the tags produced by AudioGrabber, however the software I use to enter and/or edit the tags doesnt. (Tag & Rename).

Any Ideas???????????

go back to Ots ?? :D

Nice smilie! I took that with all the implied humour which that suggestion held.

Dale, I'm glad that we got you through your initial enquiry.

My own trial copy of tag&rename has expired on the PC that I'm on at the moment, I'll have a look into that new enquiry tonight assuming my t&r at home hasn't gone the same way too.

My initial thoughts are that t&r may have some options for different tag format expectations eg id3 vs id2 etc.

New Idea: Check that any options within Tag & Rename which offer UNICODE or ASCII, are all set to ASCII.

OK - had another play last evening.

Couldnt find any options in T&R that mention ASCII at all.

Decided to start the whole process again, using a different album.

Audiograbber ripped it and added the tags.

DDJMM recognised the tags. (GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!)

I got to T&R to edit the tags - no tags.

Could it just be that T&R uses a format (or something) that DDJMM doesnt recognise? If that's the case, it's a shame because I do like to use T&R and when I start ripping my CD singles, I'm going to have to do a lot of tag editing.....

PS: OTSDJ will always be my back up system, and my use of that won't change. The HD2500 is to replace my CDs, not my laptop.

Thanks Robbie - but I had all ready unticked that from a previous thread as the DDJMM doesnt use Unicode (whatever that is!!)

Yes Nik, Audiograbber does indeed add the tags from an on-line database, and DDJMM recognises them.

My issue now is that if I want to edit them (and I do!!!), the other software (Tag & Rename) doesnt recognise the tags written by Audiograbber.

I have now emailed T&R to see if they can help (after the Easter break obviously)

I've had the same problem with T&R and had to end up amending the tags in the Denon DDM software instead... Takes ages..

Also, a lot of my cds have seen better days due to being used week in week out, using Audiograbber scares the $h!t out of me coz it's not secure.. What if the rip skips?

I've used Exact Audio Copy but it doesn't apend the wav file with tags, I've used DBPowerAmp which amends the .wav file which isn't then recognised in the Denon software (unless I change to mp3 which I might), these two do more secure copies of files, but is there anything better?

Have just read Garys post about the exploding disc - would I get better results with a specific CD (or DVD) rom drive?

I don't want to spend weeks ripping them, only to find that they all skip like a ballerina when I am trying to play them live.......

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Tonsk - can I suggest that you email T&R as well.

Where as they may ignore 1 email, 2 may trigger a better response?

I am not overly concerned with the skiping issue, very few of my cds skip and if a rip skips, I'll do exactly the same as if the cd skips, talk over it and replace the rip ASAP.

I'm sticking with Audiograbber - its got a checksum checker thingy which seems to identify bad tracks - the only thing is that it doesnt make a huge song & dance (pun intended) about it. It shows a "Checksum OK" or "Checksum BAD" against the on-screen tracklisting for that CD. So, unless theres a program option somewhere in Audiograbber for "make a song and dance about errors", you need to just keep a human eye out for "Checksum BAD" messages.

I've so far ripped 200 compilation CDs into my home PC hard drives in WAV format (darn quick in WAV format - no time wasted on MP3 encoding), and I've only had 1 track show up as "Checksum BAD". Sure enough I played it and about 2 minutes into the track...skip skip skip.... played the CD....2 minutes into the track...skip skip skip (this post is starting to sound like a 1960's Austrailian kids show about a kangaroo). I checked the other tracks on the same CD (the tracks which said that the checksum was OK, and they played fine. My conclusion, the audiograbber checksum thingy can be trusted as a way of spotting errors.

Have just read Garys post about the exploding disc - would I get better results with a specific CD (or DVD) rom drive?

I've hoovered (carefully) out the drive (A Sony), and tipped it this way and that and it doesnt have that clinkerdy dlick noise of "Now thats what I call 46 pieces" rolling around inside anymore - and I've since tested it for a few writes, and around 40 high speed reads of another shop bought audio CD (Now 38 which I've ended up with 2 originals of) and theres been no repeat of the exploding disc incident.

Hi Gary

Thanks for your thoughts...

Audiograbbers Checksum puts an X at the start or end of a file to denote that it doesn't start or end in silence.....

That appears to be all it does.... So if the CD is skipping until the end then it records an X. If it does a slight skip part way through the track, I don't think it reports this at all, and the first time you'll find out is mid gig......

Or am I wrong? anyone else any ideas?

One thing I noticed in the DDJMM manual

When only contents of ID3 Tags have been changed without using Denon DJ Music Manager, the new contents are not reflected on the database, even if the database is updated

Could this have anything to do with some of the problems being experienced?

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I still cannot find any software that will allow me to edit the tags created by audiograbber en masse.

It has got to such a level that my Denon HD2500 which I ordered in January has arrived, but I have told my friendly local DJ retailer to let someone else have it.

I do not class myself by any means as a computer idiot, but this is really annoying me now.

Looks like I may be sticking to CDs after all.

With version of Tag & Rename have you got? 3.3.5?

The other thing to check, which some users of tag&rename feel is poorly postioned on screen, are the tickboxes on the far left of the screen when you go into the "Multi-file tag editor" tab. Being on the far left of the screen they are easy to miss, and only if these are ticked, do the changes save.

Once these tags are changed to the point that tag & rename sees the changes, then do an update via Music Manager.

And of course, watch out for Unicode tag tick boxes.
