Dj's United

For me the HDC units don't truly mix in auto from one song to another

SO you dont want to be a DJ you just want to turn up with a juke box??

I think it will be a matter of time as these items become more used that a virus will be written by some git for them...

Never going to happen... each units hardware is totaly diferent ... and reprograming firmware requires user input on the denon so unless you want to virus your own unit delibrately then impossible..

and there are better ways of messing up a disco than causing the HDC to stop playing...

Although I've heard and read of proof-of-concept converged viruses and Symbian based systems vulnerable to virus's, is it actually possible that firmware could be damaged during say a download or 'infected' to corrupt the operation of the system? Would the user simply reload the older firmware and can you reload older firmware?

the main function of a virus is to replicate and spred its self..

diferent viruses have diferent effects and payloads so the concept of a phone virus or a computer virus spreading via the net or phone network is attractive to the people who write such things..

they target windows based systems because there are more out there...

there is little point in a virus for a DJs HDC its not like you send email or make calls on it...

However there is always the chance of you messing up a computer with a dogdy mp3 you got from the best man who wanted that special song played and just downloaded it from kazwire 2 hours before the reception and burnt it to disc along with the virus code atached...

do you scan cds that are given to you if you computer DJ ?

chances are there is no anti virus software on your DJ system because it hogs resources .......

I don't computer DJ but have in the past. Consequently, I do not / can not scan cds.

Probably does but I can't answer that question!

Fair comment about the computer side of things but what about the firmware questions?

Or put another way, on this new system or anything else of a similar nature, can an older firmware replace a new firmware install or does the system recognise the firmware update and decline older updates?

Only curious.

You can on a HDC unit install what ever version of the firmware you want..

old or new

but you need to force it to accept the change it wont just do it on its own...

in the case of a denon unit you need to turn the hd2500 on while holding down 2 buttons.. you then need to select the firware file source and file and then agree to the change...

does not take long but cant be done by acident...

If being a DJ is The sort of thing you do then no I dont... tongue out icon

But if being a DJ is entertaining people with some lively entertaining chat and carefully chosen songs to suit the mood and the occasion then yes I do...

Evenin' All!

Recently decided that the reason I had 2 bulky cases of CDs is because alot of the time I had 3 or 4 copies of one song, and i oly ever played one copy at a time (obviously!) and usually the same copy each gig! Thinkin about "upgrading" and copying one good copy of each to an external HD....but from there what option should I take?

Link the HD to my laptop, and play through that on a relevant program.

Buy a HD controller for my laptop which will in turn control that program,

or (and I think they're available!) buy a controller which will control th HD straight off, without the need for the laptop and program?

Your thought are appreciated!!!

Dan

Hi Dan,

I haven’t posted on here for a long time but like to read the threads once in a while.

In answer to your question, there is a massive amount of snobbery out there regarding badges, media presentation and what some perceive to be correct. The truth is if you want to follow the MP3 route then the answer is simple, get comfortable with using MP3’s.

There are probably thousands of threads on this forum about the legalities of doing this and the correct bit rate at which to rip so simply do a search. There are loads of suitable programs and controllers to handle your MP3’s and most of these can be attained on demo if you are an established DJ for hardware and as a trial version as software.

We use combinations from vinyl to DAC with all the bits in between covered and it is all down to the type of event and client perception. Find software/hardware you are comfortable with and run it alongside your current setup and evolution and time will take care of the rest.

funnily enough, regarding label snobbery and expensive is best.

if i chose to sell just 3 of my northern soul vinyl 7" i would realise enough to buy denon hd's, bose systems h&a mixer etc. but not in a million years till i am ready to party my life away would i sell my vinyl.

i wont even play it in a pub anymore, one drunk could ruin it.
