Engagement bash in a local-ish village hall for a past customer.

Hopefully I'll get the wedding too...

Unfortunately they couldn't get a bar, so it's bring a bottle. I hope that doesn't put too big a damper on things.

Music brief is party cheese and 90s classics - should be a darned good night.

The Crunch? I'm sure I can slip it in somewhere. :D

Change of plan Saturday night - wedding with the Revelation Roadshow

Well, my gig on Saturday night went really well - the possible issues with booze didn't materialise as the host bought in loads of the stuff.

Not many people there really - perhaps 30 or so, but as it was a tiny venue they didn't rattle around. The dance area was a 6' aisle down the middle between the tables, and 15 people dancing filled this completely. Cha Cha Slide was a bit of fun, too, in this confined space.

Started off with chart material from the last couple of years or so to fill in until the buffet, after which I started on the party material. Got in Gina G's 'Oooh Ahh' and Mousse T's 'Horny', the obligatory 'Macarena' along with a host of other stuff, then got a bit 'rocky', with Bryan Adams, Joan Jett etc.

I had a lot of alternative and indie tracks asked for by the client's fiance, but on her advice managed to avoid most of it - she appreciated it wasn't the stuff parties are made of.

Looks like two more bookings as a result of this, and I've come out of it all with my reputation intact, which I'm pleased about!

I must comment that my lad is getting better at this roadie lark - he's now started to suggest appropriate tracks, which is nice. smile icon

Bit of a retro weekend for me this weekend.

Friday was a 60s, 70s, 80s night at a local pub. Everyone was up for it with some awesome requests and people dancing on the tables. Easy night, 7.30pm - 11.00pm and it flew by. Best song of the night was R Dean Taylor - 'There's a Ghost in my house'.

Saturday - I had a hire out for my mate up in Wolverhampton. It was a 2 day hire for friday and saturday.

Saturday - I did an 80s Night at a venue in Basingstoke for a charity. It was excellent from the word go. Everyone was dressed up. There were some great looking girls there too in ra ra skirts and leggings and bunches in their hair all asking for Madonna and Wham etc. Played a really cheesy set too including Toni Basil, Black Lace, Bucks Fizz etc etc and it went down really well. Highlight of the night was a guy dressed up as Superman who was stuck in the middle of a huge circle of people doing all the actions to Black Lace 'Superman'.

There was a raffle, a fancy dress competition and lots of drinking and mucking about. I was also in fancy dress and they loved it. It was another night that flew by and was another early finish (7.00pm - 11.00pm). I've already had some great feedback and they want me to do all of their stuff for them in the future now.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Matt from Revelation Roadshow Saturday night for a wedding reception at a lovely venue on The Essex borders. The venue was a converted barn out in the middle of nowhere close to the owners rather stately home.

We arrived at 5pm. I had stopped at a junction to check the directions when the Revelation Road Show van appeared so I followed him for the last part of the way. In true wedding tradition, they were running late but while we were waiting for the wedding breakfast to finish, it gave us time to assemble the main part of the Wembley arch lighting rig outside. It also gave an opportunity to chat to the venue manager and staff as well as some of the guests who popped outside for a ciggy.

The arch didn't take long to bolt together. As soon as the guests vacated the hall, we moved everything in and was set up in about an hour. The lights were placed higher up on the arch than previously and in real life it did look quite impressive.

The guests were pretty tired out after a long day but there was a steady flow of people on the dance floor. Some that were glued to their seats joined in by waving arms around to tracks like Queens We Will Rock You and singing along. They were a difficult crowd to please at times, a genre that would get them up dancing would suddenly lose popularity but Matt was quick to come up with another floorfiller to get them back again.

The evening ended with a few cheers and chants for more. There were lots of good comments from the guests and Matt put on a star performance. Nothing was too much trouble for him from guests requests to management requirements (no bass bins because the owners had previously complained!).

It was a very enjoyable evening. Unfortunately the pictures I took haven't come out too well but perhaps Matt will post some he took later.

Pig of a journey home though. Absolute pea souper and maximum speed for most of the way home was 35mph because of the fog. The only damper on an otherwise excellent evening.

Well 13th birthday party for me on saturday 5 till 9.30 50 kids to entertain on the birthday girls patio. Hawaiian theme and surf board ride for the kids. No lighting as it was afternoon early evening just pure sound. All went very well they set up a gazebo for me to shelter under and already had the power installed outside (no expense spared). Was certainlly one of the easiest bookings ive ever done and all went extremelly well even the adults had a good time.

Friday night, did a 21st in a marquee in deepest sussex - all black tie & ball gowns. Finished at 2:30am - ouch!

Saturday 40th in Chelmsford, used the opportunity of a leisurely setup to do some tests and found that my rig uses around 5 amps whilst runing. This really surprised me:

Youtube thinghy.

The load consisted of Pioneer CDJ1000 x 2, DJM600, 2 x Bose L1, 2 x Stairville 250W moving heads, 4 x LED parcans, laptop, 250w water effect, 250w moonflower thing, LED front, 2 x Ikea desk lights!

BRIAN!!

What is that device you have there for measuring mains current, and where can I get one?

Could be very useful I think.

Oh - and the current was probably that low because you weren't running the amplifiers at full whack. If you had been, it might have added a couple of extra amps to the reading.
