andyw 0 Posted June 15, 2007 Report Share Posted June 15, 2007 (edited) nice easy one for us,150 12 yr olds ,school disco chance to roadtest a new roadie.he turned up late never carried anything in did a bit of mixing and turned the master slider of and cut the music altogether after that we had to let him go :ads: .anyway thanks to ads for turning up just in time to hear me make a right pigs ear on the mic.great evening i think, they booed when we said we were playing our last track to let the band take over.and thanks to andy for giving us the gig in the first place. Norfolk DJ 0 Posted June 16, 2007 Report Share Posted June 16, 2007 Friday night a round table 'chuck out' night. Consisted an 'east end' blue comedian and two near the knuckle strippers. Stripping lasted for a bout 1 hour of which 45 mins was in the nude. Little for me to do apart from playing the strippers CD's and playing some 'mens music' in between acts eg simple minds U2. Very different night and a nice crowd. Slightly disappointed that people smoking so close to the ban. Saturday - nothing need to mentaly recover! Link to post Share on other sites
music box 0 Posted June 17, 2007 Report Share Posted June 17, 2007 Great weekend for us Friday Night Local pub charity night over £3500 raised for Lukemia Kids made me very proud to be part of it. Great night. all danced and enjoyed it great reception at the end. Saturday night 40th. Birthday party for a lady called Sam I had been give a rough idea of what they wanted, and I was not sure how this was going to go, Marquee was superb not a cheap one at all. Marble white tiles as the dance floor. Turned out Sam was the wife of Liz, and I have to say we all had a great night. I will try and put a picture post on here. Here goes. clivehenryjones 0 Posted June 18, 2007 Report Share Posted June 18, 2007 Friday: 18th at a local Workingmens club with two bands who shared the same PA THEY ....WERE....EXTREMELY.....LOUD!!! and I was behind their speakers (RCF Events). Saturday: Wedding do at a college campus OK, now down to why I'm really typing this. The wedding gig on Saturday was a "hand - me - down" from another DJ, who was bailing out another DJ who....you get the picture. I was told beforehand that the B&G had a playlist - nothing unusual in that - but this playlist was for the full 4-5 hrs of the night, and was to be strictly adhered to. Home made compilation CD's were also supplied with timings etc. They left nothing to chance, and all I really had to do was press "continuous" and fill the pregnant pauses between tracks with a bit of waffle. When I saw the tracklisting I had my doubts - full of obscure tracks from Coldplay, Garbage, The Charlatans etc - not really what I would expect a typical wedding guest to know and therefore dance to. There were some obvious "dancey/cheesy" tracks though - about 20% of the total. Anyhow, I put in the first disc labelled "background music" and the dreaded CD stutter happenned - I wasn't able to use the disc. I assumed that all the discs were so affected and told the groom - I said that I had about 70% of the tracks on the playlist provided and offered to wing it with those and a little bit of my own input. He went off to advise the bride - I felt that it was she who wore the trosers in that relationship! In the meantime the room was filling and I had the youngsters chasing the light beams on the floor etc, so I decided to do an impromptu kids session, Cha Cha Slide, Fast Food rockers etc. The bride then stomped up "This isn't on my playlist!!", I couldn't believe it - the kids were all dancing and having fun but she didn't care! :shrug: I explained about the discs and she said that she had "sent the groom home to get the originals". with that we tried the "main" set of provided discs and found that they worked OK, the background music disc being the only duff one. I was then able to reassure her that I would stick to the list and timings as required, no problem - after all it was her party, they were paying for it and they should have it their way. As you would expect, initially the only ones dancing were the bride, groom and someone who I guessed was the best man. When I got to the "cheesy/dancey" tracks, though , I had a full dance floor. By this time the guests were quite well oiled and I broke away from the playlist guide and grouped a few of the aformentioned dancey tracks together (they were thrown randomly in the playlist) This got a good reaction and when these recognisable tracks petered out I was able to wing it with a few of the less obscure indie stuff (Dandy Warhols, Pulp etc.) and keep a reasonable dancefloor. The B&G didn't seem to mind this and as the party wore on, even the tracks that I had never played at a wedding before got some of the guests up. At the end of the night I was thanked profusely by the B&G for a great night, apologies made by the bride for her being a bit off with me at the beginningof the night and everyone went home happy. I'd never done a party like that before (discs provided) and thought that I got through it quite well considering the obscurity of some of the tracks. A little bit of "artistic license" by me I'm sure helped everyone have a good time. I'm not looking forward to the next one like this, though!! Clive. Link to post Share on other sites

I always explain that if you give me full rundown list of what you want played and when, you might as well hire a few lights and do it yourself. If on the other hand you want your guests to have a memorable enjoyable evening then you have top trust the dj and his experience with music and being able to read a crowd. My request sheet I send out has the following headings:: FIRST DANCE FAVOURITE SLOW SONGS FEW FAVOURITE TRACKS OR ARTISTS SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS ANYTHING YOU DO NOT WANT PLAYED Works for me Link to post Share on other sites

Yeah I agree, majority of the songs that were requested I normally play as part of my set anyway. I done a wedding on Saturday where the Bride had requested songs that realated to the hen night and other special occasions which was great as some of the tracks were from the 90's.
