During the past year, I regularly see posts about active crossovers and how to set them up. So with that in mind Pete and I thought a bit of fun would be to play with an active crossover / limiter / etc.

So.... here is our suggestion on what we can all do whilst we have a few pints:

12" / 15" / 18" and maybe a twin 18" Sub Bass Demo

We propose to use a computer driven DSP active crossover (Soundweb) and a range of our sub bass speakers. This is similar to the DSP that you are now finding in amps like Crown.

With a computer driven crossover it will be possible to switch seamlessly between bins and configuration. A simple mouse click and we can change bins! Hopefully this will be with a Pint in our hands!

The concept is to show a range of different size bass bins, configurations and how different bins perform at different crossover frequencies.

1. Why the use of an Active crossover in all systems makes sense.

2. High pass filters ( what difference it makes).

3. Setting up a system with Pink Noise and an analyser.

4. Difference between 12” / 15” / 18” bins

5. Why Mono Sub bass makes sense

6. Checking the correct phase of Bins to tops

No formal chat or presentation, just an informal chance to play with toys and hear settings.

I am waiting to talk to Gary at Denon, but hopefully we can even take a sound feed from the Denon toys he is bringing and thus the whole evening will be working and drinking as one!

-------

We will have some DMX/XLR leads and these will be at a special low price.

Yep, I'll be there. Second-hand, you mean "previously loved" kit :dan+ju:  . I will also have some new stuff as well. Subject to checking and making sure it all works, I should have a Multiphase 412 mkI and mkII, a Citronic SM450, a Citronic graphic, Radio Shack mixer, various cases, possible a Citronic 10:4 mixer, Carlsbro 600i amp, plus Gaffa tape and other odds and ends. if anyone wants anything in particular, please let me know and I will source the best price for you.

..playing all the hits for you...

....whether you may be....

Why can't I see what i going on???

Just spoken with Gary at Denon,

yep he will be coming with loads of different decks and mixers.

Denon will be the source for the sound system, so we have a quality front end signal!

Yes, looking forward to it - as well as Denon equipment being the source for the main sound system, we'll have a number of Denon "listening posts", where there'll be lots of Denon gear, rigged up to headphones for everyone to try out all the features without having to try and be louder than the person next to them etc.

Should be a really good afternoon/evening.

As a footnote to this meeting can I please add.

The idea of this meeting is to add to the many functions that are already available to dj's in the UK.

and no other reason.

and the entry is free :dan+ju:

Cheers all

Yep, Nelly B's promo corner is where Neil Brown (see new music reviews in ProMobile every month) brings along a pile of new tracks and I play them whilst he gives an intro to each one. We have run these at SEDA Show Nights for months, and they are welcomed by many members! This will run at about 8:30pm I think. Many thanks to Pete and Ali for allowing us to run this at your show.

I'm not going to make it, feeling very rough today. Sat here shivering, not good!

Steve... Mad bad & dangerous to know

This thread's beginning to get a bit like one of those ol' Curry on Films… :ads:

Despite the afternoon being a little to hot to comfortably lug in the entire Denon exhibition rig, and despite the "residents" of the venue thinking that with the amount of kit coming in, the Russians were setting up a base in their venue, and yes, even despite someone coming up to us and trying to make a request for a particular track to be played later… myself and The 118-118 Boys had a really enjoyable time.

The fact that several visitors to the event were so impressed with the functionality of the displayed gear that they stated that they'd be contacting their Denon stockist asap to make their purchase, well….so much the better.

Thanks to Pete for organising the event, Linda for putting up with us keeping her up half the night, and apologies to the local curry house for not being able to swell their customer numbers by 3 extra, as we were still packing away when the rest of the guys above were poppin' along for a poppadom (there were a couple of other reasons that I couldn't go too).

Equally good, I won some long DMX leads on the raffle.

When's the next one Pete?
