I'm just starting up again after 10 years break.

What's the average price for Saturday night in the West Midlands / Warwickshire.

I don't have a big rig, but it is good quality equipment.

I'm a cheesy party music DJ.

Depends what market your aiming at. IMO having a big rig doesn't mean you'll get more money, and having a small rig shouldn't mean less money.

I've charged between 225-275 for wedding bookings this year, and its going up to 265-325 next year, with already a fair few bookings already. There's also been the occasional all day background music job, for which I charge a bit on top.

A lot of things will determine how much you can charge. People on here are charging £400 per night whilst others £150. Supply & demand is a factor.

Too many factors determine this, but as you are starting out, I would think you will be happy to get a few gigs under your belt and feel the local market to see what you determine is your normal fee.

Eg in Norfolk & Suffolk the average saturday night 4-5 hour fee is £180. I can charge about £220 because I offer a slightly different service than the other discos. I might charge a bit less in the middle of February to attract more work.

Remember Robin, if you purchased therightmusic you could charge £300 plus  tongue out icon

Yes Tony I would like to charge £300 per night, but I would have to pay Mrs Norfolk the extra!

You can get a fair idea of average pricing from the poll shown on the portal page and This Topic. However if you are planning to offer an above average service your price should also reflect this.

My own thoughts are that there are too many good DJs charging the 'average' rather than what they are worth.

Paul, those exact words were said to me a few months back and I thought long and hard about whether to put the prices up. I was worried that I wouldn't get any work but if anything I am getting more now.

Strange that smile icon Whenever I talk to DJs and the subject of price comes up I always hear the same reasons - not in this area, I'll lose work, no-one would pay me that, I don't have the guts to ask for more etc.

Whenever I talk to DJs who have raised their prices I always hear - my bookings have gone up.

The 1st and most important aspect of raising your prices is that you have to believe, in yourself, that you are worth what you are asking for in relation to what you can bring to the event (not just in terms of equipment). So if you don't think you are worth more than you currently charge you can either keep the status quo or look at ways to improve so that you are worth more.

If you already think that you are under-charging then it's time to bite the bullet and do something about it. The people who undervalue DJs the most are DJs.

i feel cheeky asking for much more i wouldnt pay it personally rather do it myself .

until i feel my rig is just as i want it i will hover around the £200.00 mark.

when i have exactly what i want then i will think about more money. i have a thing with it not being all it maybe could be. thats why i work all week really, improve improve improve = cash cash cash.

i see others gigging round here and think what the **** are you using? looks home made or retrieved from a tip, i want a good image and presentation coupled with a big clear crisp sound. and a decent assortment of good sounds.

not too much to ask lol.
