Hi guys,

Call a few DJs in yellow pages around your area with a ficticous quote request, pick a date in the far future theres a better chance they wont be booked, then base it around that, but we wont leave the house for less than £150, its just not worth it, consider loading/unloading time, petrol, travelling time, etc etc If you work on a day job, look at your hourly rate....then think how much harder a 10 hour wedding function can be.......people will pay if the service is good, my sister paid £500 at her wedding for a DJ that she knew was good, (before I started up that is) and he was, full floor all night!

Dont sell yourself short, but sometimes you have to take a lower paid job, we did one a couple of weeks ago for free for a charity, not only did we get advertising in all their literature about the function, we got free press coverage, loads of thanks from the comittee etc etc and loads of enquiries on the night, handed out at least 50 cards, took a booking on the night and know that I have had three bookings as a result. We were very lucky with that one but somethimes it pays to take a lower rate...

Quick tip

Get all your information correct and be ready to give your number out in case you are asked.

A lot of professional DJ's and agencies have 'erd it all before matey!!! And if they know the venue you 'fib' about, they might hike-up the quote - especially if it's a hotel suite!!!

You could try the Yellow Pages method - but fib a little bit. Say you are a DJ, and you are unavailable to do a function. Ask if they are free on the'date', and how much would they charge your 'friend'?

Good Luck http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif
