It's certainly 'the best' solution for ceremonies, background music during a wedding breakfast and for wedding receptions where they want great sounding music - that's why I have them.

As for a disco I thought they sounded horrible when the volume went higher. The serious lack of bass did not impress me hence why I sold mine. Low volume and they sounded great. I went with Andy Harris to a gig in the summer, he has Bose and I was pleased to hear that I made the right choice in selling mine. I sold mine to a vocalist which in my opinion was designed for.

 

There is a far better sounding system for disco work at a fraction of the price. When I change my system I will be looking at the Martin audio range .

 

Bose owners please don`t be offended by my honest comments everyones hearing is different unless I had a faulty system.

I looked at a website earlier today on which it was stated that 1 x Bose L1 plus 2 x bass units is enough for 2-300 people.

 

Can a user comment please?

Depends entirely on the event. For cocktail music outdoors, no problem. For dance volumes at a wedding, no way. In the a to b comparisons I did, I found that one L1 with 2 B1s was better than a PAIR of Mackie SRM450s or JBL Eon GIIs, in volume, spread of sound and quality of sound.

In certain venues, yes. I typically run my EQ very flat with the Bose system, with only a very slight 'smiley face'. To be fair, I am playing 80% to 90% for elegant events and one of my selling points to clients is that I'd rather be asked 5 times to turn it up than be told once to turn it down.

 

Elegance and positive brand recognition really are the forté of the Bose L1 system IMO.

Yes - at one function I just couldn't find what I considered to be the right eq so I eered on the side of preference and whacked the bass up (1 x L1 & 2 x B1). I had two complaints that there was too much bass.

 

A couple of weeks ago I had a younger crowd so I tried out 1 x L1 and 4 x B1 (with a packlite) and the whole stage (& my rig) vibrated - lovely smile icon

Did a 40th Birthday a little while back and had the tables and chairs vibrating nicely according to a lady sitting about 40' away!!

 

Had the glasses on the table bouncing nicely to Pon De Replay and got asked to turn the bass down by the venue manager at another venue

But forgetting the brand name for a moment, the quality of the sound reproduced is very, very good and commented on. Never really had that with other speakers, brand names too. I may know what my ears are saying, but the best judge has to be the audience who clearly re-enforce the positive aspects of the upright willy system.

Do you not think that the reason you get the comments on the sound is partly due to attention being brought to the speakers because of their unique design? once talking about the design they then go on to comment on the quality.

I've found that the look of the system is a little lower on the point list.

So far, when used during a Wedding Reception, the comments (few but none the less some) have all commented on aspects of the sound!

That said, on a few occasions now (since used) there have been comments on where are my speakers? When noticed, the surprised look is a picture!

I accept that the speakers do look different to my previously used but so is the sound.

 

Perhaps others have more to say on this as I'm still learning!

I'm quite happy to accept that the sound quality of the L1 is pretty good - the design lends itself nicely to low levels of colouration, but let's not forget here that an awful lot of DJ specific speakers sound absolutely dreadful!

 

And I think this could be the point here when people comment on the quality:

It isn't that the Bose produces fantastic sound quality - I don't think it does from what I've heard, it's just quite a bit better than much of the rubbish available at the budget end of the market, and I expect this is what many members of the audience are picking up on.

Just out of interest, can the "Bose" badges be easily removed from the poles without leaving nasty gaps etc.

 

Gets rid of the "only bought it for the name" issues...

 

Keeps the ears happy, without trying to just please the eyes.

If you were to buy a Denon DN-S3500, would you remove the big white DENON badge for the same reason? How about if you drove a Porsche?

 

If however I had for example bought "Altai" speakers or a Yugo, I would certainly try to debadge them :bouncy:

Those people with the Bose system though wouldn't be really targeting the budget end of the market though really...

 

I know that if I spent 3k on a sound system, I wouldn't use it unless it was a "nice do" - if you know what I mean!

This thread was started by Spinner to ask Bose owners a specific question. Why do those who don't like the system feel the need to add replies - there are loads of other threads on here which cover Bose vs Everything else - do we really need yet another one?

 

My suggestion is that those who don't like the system try to resist the temptation to add their opinions to threads where it is not necessary/required and save them for those where it is. smile icon

I play mainly weddings - and some of them dont end up the upmarket affairs you would hope for.

 

At a recent one I had one paticluarly "happy" woman fall onto the L1.... I watched as it supported her, she picked up and carried on.

 

Cant find any damage to it...... working fine. Silly size of the base is what tripped her up and I am forever thinking of setting them further back so people headbutt a datamoon first. I try putting lights on them but just doesnt stop some people.

 

 

I have also been asked to turn the bass down. Normally I run them flat (their eq) with my eq slightly more on the treble side.

I do alway tend to take 4B1 with me though - they fit so nicely under a 6ft stand.

 

As for the name - some people notice - mainly blokes - most people like the music - but them I am never trying to be so loud. I dont play 18ths / 21sts though I have got a 50th coming up - let it all kick off.

 

 

PS. I love these Bose threads - its great seeing people get riled over a speaker taller than me

I also dont own anything by Denon so maybe i am not getting the best out of them yet tongue out icon

Venue last night with about 120 people, used one L1 with 4 B1s and a packlite amp. Sounded fantastic (plenty of bass) and I had loads of comments both during and after about the clarity of the sound.

 

Sweet child of mine sounded awesome!
