Feed back form is in, we did a big old house set on the Bose L1 for this wedding, client said:

Is the L1 Mk I being discontinued??

 

It doesn't seem to be listed on Sound Control's website any more. I did email them on Sat, but their automated reply was vague. (Haven't had the time to phone them yet.)

Try 'Turnkey' if you are buying mail order, they beat Sound Control's price by a considerable margin.

I would have thought the non-RoHS L1 has to be discontinued and must be replaced by a RoHS version, we'll need to find out on Sunday.

Hey there Ed, do you know if that's still the case? When I visited Turnkey it's £1399 for a Single Bass package, though if I remember rightly that's the same as Sound Control used to price it.

I wanted 2x PS1s, 2x L1s (mark 1s), 4x B1s and an A1 packlite amp. Total retail cost was £3520.

 

Spoke to a chap in the PA department at Sound Control (Bristol) and asked for his best price, he said £3520, I said that I wanted a deal, he said that Bose wouldn't allow deals on the L1 systems, but they sometimes sold demo systems at 10% less than the new price, but didn't have any demo units in stock. He then told me if I wanted to come up to Bristol on the Friday, he would 'demo' all that I wanted to buy and let me purchase it afterwards for £3200 slightly over a 10% saving.

 

I then rang Turnkey, told them that Sound Control could do the system for £3200 if I went and had it demo'd and asked for their best price. I was told that Bose would not allow them to move on the retail price and that all the stockists of the L1 system HAD ro sell it at the retail prices. I informed him that if that were the case both the retailers and Bose were breaking the law as it is a criminal offence to price fix. After a bit of stammering he asked for the chaps name that I had spoken to at Sound Control and which store. I told him and he asked me to hold, after about 5 inutes he came back again and asked which store, I repeated what I said and he again put me on jold. About 5 minutes later, he came back online again and said that their best price was £3100 for it all. I asked if that included delivery and he said no, that would be extra (I thought here we go) and he said it would be an additional £30, but they would be unable to deliver until the Monday as it was now too late for a Friday delivery. I agreed and gave him my credit card details.

 

Got a telephone call the following morning to say they were upgrading my delivery to a Saturday morning one free of charge.

I was told that the L1 Model (I) and the L1 Model (II) were RoHS compliant.

I don't think the original L1 Model 1's were RoHS compliant.
