Paula,

thanks for bringing the james brown up, i was hoping someone would, ( I didn't want to sound like a know all)

Michael Jackson & the jackson 5 learnt most of their Dance Moves from watching James brown on Stage at the Appollo, before I am shot down, that is a quote on from MJ on James Brown's life story

thats the one paula! Didnt MJ also steal the idea of wearing white gloves so that his hand movements could be seen more easily by the crowd from sammy davis junior?

Smooth criminal ross!  Point slide, point slide - the words from a world famous choreographer to ensure that the dynamics of moonwalking were given a simple explanation!  What do you do with your feet when you moonwalk then - pointing and sliding are the basic steps of moonwalking!  Quite often the simplest explanations are the easiest to follow!

I totally agree with ian on the wigan front too!    http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Can I just say that Michael Jackson is not the be all and end all..  hes had his day, and its time to move on... yes he did do some brill stuff - this is a dj forum not the MJ appreciation society!

SCR - we are here to debate and we all have our opinions - perhaps when aiming comments at extremely highly regarded members such as Ian it should be done with a little more respect.  I would urge you to think before you post - before telling members that some of their statements are crap!

oooh ok bow down to the all hard Super-Mod

Can u moonwalk?

i can do the Moonwalk, and from what i do

there is no point and slide, it is my opinon, those instructions wud not teach any1 the Moonwalk, as ive already tested on a few friends.

Its all in the heel and Toe, and ur timing between switching over to creat the illusion, it wud take much more than "point and Slide"

And no, never said it was an MJ appreciation thread, but, unfortunately, the topic refers to break-dancing, and if im right, Michael Jackson, Breakdances, so there is a relevance to this topic.

But seen as tho u say hes "past it"

as DJ, u will soon see, when his new single comes out, albeit its slow, but ppl will start listening to the Billie Jeans.

EDIT:

After reading few more posts i add more!

So, Michael Jackson was influenced by James Brown, oh major sin!

Jeffery daniels, did some sort of "moonwalk" Michael Jackson perfected it, and to prve it, wheres JD now, and wheres MJ, whose got the biggest selling album of all time? whose the one with Lot of Cash!

and the whole glove thing, he was influenced again, he didnt "Steal" it.

Sheesh

This could go on for ever, elements of breakdancing were also elements of wigan soul which were elements of gymnastics which were also used by clowns and trapeeze artists and mime artistes so we are now back to the late 1800s.Its very difficult to put a date to it,moonwalking probably comes from the shuffling dance style of early blues artistes. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

well..... no point slide.. who am I and a millionaire xs a few choreographer to argue with you! For myself I have taught more than a few mates to breakdance - or more uptodate - street dance... I cant quite recall how many classes I have taught, but would imagine it runs into 1000s of pupils who have always grasped the concept of point slide with their feet. But there again, its a long time since I have been at school.

OK Smooth Criminal you are speaking your mind, which happens to be mis informed, we are stating fact

but why let that stand in the way

and refering to Kazz as a superhard mod is a liitle disrespectful, if

not plane rude, I think you owe her an apology

touring the UK at the moment

all we were saying is that when someone states a fact, conduct some research before you dismiss it out of hand

I stated a fact that the break dancing style of dancing started way befor the 80's b bop thing, I was trying to add something to the discussion, but if you are not willing to learn thats your problem

Before this gets into real drag... can I just say that having an opinion is one thing, you are entitled to it, but remember it is only your opinion, and as such should not be rammed down the throat of other members. Having read your posts SCR before you edited them, can I remind you that we have no room for people who are offensive. You seem to have riled a few professionals who have been in the business for many many years and I would ask you that if you enter into debate with people who have enormous experience of the industry, you do it slightly different from how you would act in the playground.

alritey then, 2 many threads to quote from and answer so i'll just have to answer it as best as i possible can!

I am always willing to learn, JD, oh touring the UK, and? THat still doesnt answer the question on the cash, and on the Album side of things?

Yes Ian stewart, u are saying "facts" thats ok, but i too, am speaking facts, i have not said "Michael Jackson is a god" cos that is an opinon. but i say "Thriller" is the biggest selling album of all time, thats a fact, i know the difference, we're taught it in Media.

And Kaz, Invincible, i shudda known, some1 was gonna drag that up, cos hell why not, easy chance to go along with the press and slag it off, before going into the FACTS(arent they great!)

Invincible sold 10 Million Copies.

Justified(Justin TImberlake) sold 10 Million Copies.

Just remind me where people say Justified didnt do well? I aint seen anyone yet.

Now, is it because, his name is Michael Jackson, and because 10 Million isnt good by MICHAEL JACKSON standards? becos if any artists today sold 10 million albums, they wud be pleased! but no, its MJ, its only 10 Million, not the usual 20+.

Well sorry, he is human, and doesnt produce records ALL the time(unless wen hes touring)

Thanks!

Geez - I take a few hours off and look what happens.

Karen, he's 16 and he likes Michael Jackson just give him a break. Whatever you say right or wrong won't stop the lad from defending him.

Ross - Karen is *Ahem*, *cough* not polite to say a ladies age, but lets just say that she is a lot more older than you and more experienced and with age comes respect. She may not be 100% correct, in your eyes but she is equally entitled to her opinion as you are. Karen's comment was on a Celebrity continuously in the public eye but not present on this forum, and it wasn't a direct or personal attack made on you!.

Let's not let emotions and opinions make us lose track here. This is a forum and you are always going to get somebody who has differing views and opinions to you thats the whole point if its existance. Non of it is done out of spite, and if you take offence purely from somebody's right to express an opinion that differs from your own, then that is YOUR problem!.

I'm all for freedom of speech, and for letting heated topics run their course but when it starts becoming personal and a free for all then it ends - NOW.

Thanks Chris

I apologise for being sarcastic

i was just annoyed becos it seemd like u were sticking up for him, when i hadnt really done owt wrong, then.

got even more annoyed with the whole JD and accusing MJ of being "past it" and stealing ppls ideas!

I just say this one last thing about him in here, and its about Invincible, cos i really do get angry, when ppl say it didnt do well.

Invincible sold 10 million copies Fact

Justified(JT) sold 10 million copies FACT

now, in the papers/radio/tv where does it say justified was a flop? it doesnt.

most artists wud be happy to sell 10 million albums.

However, cos his name is MJ, they assume he shud be selling 20 Million + each time, well it just dont happen.

Thank u for your time, whether i come back here or not, is another thing, becos i know how u feel about me now, but thanks again Chris.

I think it's best we switched the lights off on this one and put it bed!! Incidently I have had a word with my son "Smooth Criminal Ross" and fined him two months pocket money for being cheeky. He does feel quite passionately about the guy as shown by his comments unfortunately not everyone shares the same feeling. I've told him to lighten up a bit and allow people to feel free to voice their opinions especially as he is learning the aspects of becoming a mobile DJ. I apologise on behalf of my sons' lack of respect and hope any further posts will be made with a bit more thought.-----------------Thank You

I also like MJ,JB,MGB,TCP and JCB and it was kind of sad to watch and see that peoples communications skills led to sweeping statements and everybody got mad: I am sure breakdancing ,footsie,M Jackson and James Brown have influenced many things good but they nearly started a war here! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif

Nah, as Karen said don't "fine" him. He was just sticking up for his opinions and that isn't a crime. It was more the comments he made rather then his beliefs which caused the problems.

I think everybody has had their say, and its time to move on to the next thread.
