Only once. I had a pint before my set and half way through I hit CUE on the wrong CD player and stopped the music in front of 2000 people at a Birmingham superclub.

I've never touched a drop since.

Remember...drink makes you think you're DJing better. It does not make you DJ better.

No. Only water (I always take a road-ready flask with me) or coke.

The only exception is if it is a friends party or I am doing the party for myself, ie/ I invite the guests (the latter being very rare and has only happened once).

Even then, not usually much at all.

One other exception is New Years Eve/Day where I may have a glass of champagne or whatever but that is it.

Nope, I never drink while Im working coz Im allways driving home for one.

And even if I wasnt driving home I still wouldnt drink as I dont think it would look proffesional, Im their to work and to provide a service, not have it large with the punters.

I do tend to drink a lot of Red Bull though.......keeps me alert and on the ball for doing the job LOL

No drinking huh - aren't we a good little bunch.

Me, Don't hold with all that "professional" gumph myself. Yes I drive and yes I drink soft drink predominantly through the evening, but I see nothing wrong with a pint or maybe two early doors in the evening. It actually helps to stand at the bar with a drink and chat to the people you will be entertaining later in the evening!

Errr......its not so much I prefer not to drink at venues.....

Cant afford it a lot of the time LOL

The price they charge for a propper drink in hotels is appauling......so I just ask for a jug of water LOL

Seriously though......I admit Im a lightweight when it comes to drinking and I couldnt do my job after having a few beers.

Amyway, whats wrong with chatting to people at the bar before the gig while supping on a coke?

Until this year I got hammered pretty much every night I worked. But I'm taking a year off the sauce so it'll be interesting to see how things are different when I'm sober.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Like a fish...thats why I have a roadie to pack up and drive me home!

Tend not too get too rat legged (do that with my band) but I do like to keep up with the average party goer. I reckon if I'm in the same state of mind as most of them, then I judge the music better/

Now I can no longer smoke at venues I'll be ******** if I can't drink as well...helps pass the time   :joe:

New Years Eve I tend to have a few drinks as I am able to leave the equipment at the venue to pack down the next day and I live pretty much opposite the venue.

But this year I didnt, was suffereing heavily from a proper flu lol.

totally agree with you always have a bottle 2 max at the bar at the beginning talking to the clients and guests i a good way to find music preferances and also the ones that will probably get on the floor first

Drinking while working is unprofessional.

The bar staff are not allowed too......the waiters/waitresses are not allowed too......anybody else at work is not allowed too.

So what as DJs makes you any different?

I wonder why the mobile disco has got the reputation it has when theirs so called "professional" DJs behaving like this.

there is a big difference between a bar person/waiting staff and a dj

they serve we entertain

if you see a comedian on stage and he has a drink would you say he is being unprofessional?

or a band and they are drinking would that be unprofessional?

we are talking a couple of drinks at the beginning of an evening not getting totally blitzed during the evening

I don`t drink because am driving home. Also without sounding like a muppet and its only my opinion 99% of my functions are weddings and standing there in my tux with a beer in my hand doen`t look professional to me.. That`s only my opinion am not saying DJ`s shuldn`t have a drink if that makes them feel relaxed etc.

There is nothing wrong with having one drink at the beginning of the evening. It doesn't look bad. It isn't irresponsible.

I always tend to have a pint of guinness after i have set up. Then normally take some small bottles of squash with me anyway because as soon as you start you don't get chance to go to the bar anyway. People can see that you have only had one pint anyway.

Best drink of the night for me is at the end and a big pint of lemonade with loads of ice whilst I am packing up.

So be honest, if you like a drink at the beginning of the night, so what! There is nothing wrong with that at all. For me what looks worse is DJ's keep nipping outside for a cigarette.

Lastly, I do always carry a packet of mints with me because if you have had a drink it isn't nice when talking to the guests later on during the night.

We are supposed to be there enjoying ourselves as well. If we look like we are enjoying ourselves, 9 times out of 10 it's infectious and everyone feels relaxed.

One pint isn't going to make any difference by the time you have finished and have to drive home.

If the law was changed I would honestly abide by it. Like somebody else said, there are a couple of venues that keep me supplied with a mug of tea or coffee all night.

No, I never drink when I am at work because im underage :-). Still 16. BUT I have done a couple of family ones and just friends where I have had a bottle.

Saying that I went to soemones wedding he wanted me to enjoy myself and not DJ so I did, and they hired this other fellow. He was getting drunk all night I went up and asked for a song and his reply was 'Have a look through the CDs' then I saw him put the CD in upside down :-s. Completely unprofessional and would never do it even when I can drink.
