OK then, Where to start! lol!

Let me sum the whole experience up to start with before givingyou some specifics....

What's it meant to be all about?

Why say that? Well, I wasn't sure if this was a website offering DJ services (and actually, if I'd stumbled across it on the net, I probably wouldn't have realised), or is it a personal site where you can communicate everything about you and your mates. In short, it's not doing one thing just lots of things badly.

But that doesn't help much, so some specifics:

1. colours - the pink on navy is so hard to read. I would say that'll put a lot of people off. There are a few schools of thought on web colours. For me (IMHO), steer clear of black backgrounds, lighten it up and make sure the colours compliment not contrast.

2. It's way to "friendly" and "Matey". Now if it's meant to be a mates site so you can let people know about you and your life, then maybe that's OK, but as a site trying to promote a DJ or Disco, loose the "hi matey, it's my wee site" stuff

3. Just a small question of keyword stuffin - scroll to the bottom of the pages - not a good idea (as I already know)

4. The pictures page confused me completely. Lots of great pictures of people in pubs. It sort of continued the "this is about me" theme of the site and certainly didn't say "I'm a DJ book me". As a client (if that's what you want it to be for), I guess I would be onto the next one on Google based on the "licking" pictures. It's also worth noting that the thumbnails at the fron ent of the page are not very good quality - although they do seem to improve on click.

5. Didn't get the jukebox thing at all - plus not certain you can legally do that anyway. seemed a bit MySpace / facebook to me.

6. Guestbook - a wonderful way of getting real and genuine feedback from clients. Yours just seems to be an extension of MSN - that would deffinately put me off if I was a client!

7. The Games / forum sections? Why? see comments above!

Can't say I am at all perfect. I designed my site myself, learnt a lot from my red on black early days and now a majority of my work comes from it. Keep your chin up, some hard work to do, but I'm sure you'll get there.

See above!

I also found the tone (to a prospective client) to be too friendly, slightly offensive (in parts) and aggresive!

Cheers!

First let me apologise for what I think may insult you, it isn't meant to do, it is constructive criticism.

The Heading....

Mitch Rocks, if you make a statement like that I think it looks like you are full of yourself. Check other DJ websites and reviews, I'm the best, greatest, best equipment, most high tech, etc, etc.. just doesn't work.

The Home page......

As already said, is more like a my space sort of site, it doesn't appear to be a professional site offering DJ services. You have asked us to review it so I expect that it is meant to be promotional.

The Gallery.......

This is probably the worst part of the whole site, the pictures suggest that you are more of a lager lout than an entertainer, you have so many pictures that show you drinking and looking p:cense:d, you may not be but that is what the pic's say to me.

The Jukebox........

Why?

The Guest Book.......

The idea of having a guest book/feedback page is great if you have meaningful posts on it, there is nothing on there that really says anything about the disco.

The Games......

Nothing to do with your disco.

The Forums.........

Again, just a waste of space that doesn't say anything.

All in all I would recommend that you avoid using it as it will just damage your reputation.

You need to put yourself in a potential clients eyes, what would you want to see?

Jim

That's quite a talent I have - being too friendly yet offensive and aggressive at the same time!!! tongue out icon

Great feedback folks, some that I agree with and some I don't! But keep it coming.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Have to agree with the above comments, If you are serious about promoting yourself as a DJ, then start a seperate site and restrict it to professional content, keep this site as your matey site. Cheers

I think everyone has summed this up already

IMHO - Its not a site i would advertise to sell yourself or services you offer.

If any came across the site while looking for discos in the area you cater for - I dont beleive it would do you justice or bring any work in.

These are just my opinions,

I can't see what's wrong with the site it if it gains enquiries and generates bookings!

But if it doesn't, then I would seriously, seriously think about what sort of client you wish to cater for, aim your online service information towards them, and maybe consider a landline number (unless of course you have a day job and can not be near a landline phone during the day!

Honestly, if I was based near you and found your website because I was looking to pass on work (business to business), as a fellow DJ, I would be inclined to 'skip' your site.

Look around. There are plenty of websites to view and generate your own site ideas, but do not be tempted to copy and paste!

We have many members here I'm sure only to pleased to assist and help you re-develop your site for free as well as help you boost your 'rankings' with exchange of links. The alternative is to pay for a custom site, and even then, there are no-hard-guarantees that the level of support won't cost more (e.g. to update) long term.

In the meantime, if you posess a digital camera, dig it out and start generating own content (gig photos) ready for the future if not done so already.

Be positive and hopefully, within a few months, you may see a positive result with the site too!

I've made a few changes to the site but there's nothing to look at at the minute. I'm doing a bit more planning and will hopefully relaunch it soon. Thanks for the feedback.

The keyword spamming at the bottom has to go. If you're doing that in the hope of Google giving you a higher ranking then try again as they actually mark you down in the rankings as it's considered cheating.

Found the site a bit too glitzy. Stars background with pink writing on doesn't project a very professional image. To me at least.
