This is my 2,000th post!!!

How the hell are we all guys? It's been a while so I thought I'd just pop by and say Hi and let you know what's been happening in my life!

12 months ago I played my last gig in Cheshire, just before Christmas. I then sold everything aside from the two Bose poles. We moved down to Bournemouth where I started buying quality DJ gear to replace my old entry-level SoundLab equipment (from an old post):

So my predicament is what to do with everything. I have a brand new Denon x-900 mixer, a brand new Denon DND4500 dual-cd player both housed in a superb Road Ready flight case. I have two Bose poles with four subs, an LED star cloth DJ Booth, two Power Drive winch stands and a Martin Mania EFX600 discharge effect complete with Freekie controller.

I thought I would be working a lot more as a 'high-class' wedding DJ but, completely out of the blue, I was offered an amazing job which would take up all of my time. Having used all this gear ONCE since I got it in April, I haven't used it since. It still sits in a secure, heated lock-up.

The job has been interesting to say the least - I've driven a RIB (speed boat) at 36 knots around The Solent, spent the day pretending to be a lifeguard on a £2.5m RNLI boat and I've been in the life-saving pool in full storm conditions. Brilliant! The job is still very demanding, so demanding that I had to drop my part-time college course and even my exams. The disco wouldn't have stood a chance - packing it in was a good decision.

But am I missing the DJ work?

Hard to say; whilst I'm sitting here listening to The Wonderstuff and The Nolans on WinAmp I get in the party spirit and I remember the feelings of seeing a bouncing dance-floor. Then I remember that feeling only lasted for a short while but the DJ day started early and finished very late. The lifting, the aching, the lack of sleep, the drunk punters, missing the weekend with my family, crap Saturday night TV.

I suppose I miss the good times (Bros just started on WinAmp...Wahey!), but it's whether they outweigh the bad times..?

Anyway, I hope you are all fit and healthy, busy in the run up to Christmas and happy of course! Oh, and I still haven't decided whether to sell up or not!!!

Take care fella's, be nice to hear from you all again!

whatever you choose to do i wish you all the best.

gotta go out in rain now to load up and then set up, in rain again. then perform then de rig and load up and unload and pack away.

i think i'll join you instead lol.

There are definite drawbacks to being a DJ, many of which you've mentioned. The way I look at is - I hate this job less than I've hated any other job so I'll stick with it. If, like you, I find a job I hate even less than this one it'll give me a tough decision. But you seem happy in what you're doing - good on ya!

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Very good! The flip side to not DJ'ing is that because the weekends are free, I have to DIY. Today, I've got to paint a freshly plastered room...playing loud music certainly sounds more appealing to me right now!

Hi Rich - you've found us again - good to hear from you smile icon

From my experience the urge to DJ never really goes away. I too took a sabatical for several years and actually did think that my DJing days were over - now it's my full time job.

So don't sell the Bose unless you get a really good offer (which might happen as I believe the Mk1 is no longer in production and could become a sought after piece of equipment). In the meantime make up a couple of extension leads - put an L1 either side of your TV with the PS1s hiding behind it and voila :joe:

Good to hear from you again Rich, I was wondering where you'd gotten to the other day.

Don't sell up, you never know when you might want to do a gig. I think it's worth keeping your hand in so to speak, especially as you enjoy DJing.

Take care mate.

Steve... Mad bad & dangerous to know

Better to study for one hour with the wise, than to drink wine with the foolish.

The opinions of Corabar Steve are not necessarily those of Corabar Ltd or any of it's subsidiary companies

Rich

You know my views as I told you them the other day...

I think you'd miss it if you sold em, although it would give you some immediate cash (unless you win the lottery remember? Then they are mine!)..

If you love your day job and it keeps you busy, then keep doing it, but keep the equipment - just in case....
