The Staff Xmas Party

100 for 5 hours?? Your way to cheap there in my opinion if you do a decent job should be at least 200 I should think.

Just been asked (15minutes ago) to do the staff party for the hotel group that I have been doing my xmas gigs at. I told them I would do their party 9pm until midnight for my minimum charge of £140. They have booked it. They are happy, I am happy.

Normally I would agree, but it may depend on how much work they have given you through out the year, it may be a goodwill gesture to enhance your reputation and may well pay dividends in the future.

I am doing mine for less than I charged them for their Xmas gigs, they realise and appreciate this so we both win.

i done my hospital departments christmas party last week.

i organised the whole thing which was quite stressful but worth it in the end.

the hotel package i had arranged included a disco but my department wanted me for some reason :ads:

i charged £250 and they were more than happy and so was i. actually had a roady with me for the first time and i gave him £50 (he must have thought it was christmas)

as mentioned above, if you have had lots of bookings from that hotel during the year its always worth doing this one party for them with upto a 50% discount as this will be noted by the management and hopefully get you even more work for 2008

If this is where you work regularly then the fee you suggest shows generosity on your part and should be seen in that light by the party organisers.

If that's not the case and it's a one off then it's far too cheap.

Yep. If you get a fair bit of work direct / on the word of the venue - offer to give the staff party for nothing.

Depends on how you view 'a fair bit of work' really. :D

Whatever you decide, don't forget the opportunity of future work whilst not selling your self short!

Just to clarify the position, i do some work for the hotel throughout the year and the christmas dinner dances.

I am offering a 50% discount bringing it down to £100. This will be for a 4 hour show otherwise the fee increases.

Fair comments but we all know that they have us by the dangly bits too. They can get someone else in just like that if you don't look after them.

I am fully prepared to do my hotel residency's staff party for nothing even though they cancelled 9 christmas parties on me leaving me with just the 6 but I have weddings and birthdays throughout the year too.

It just so happens though that they haven't even enquired about it as yet so I could just well be busy anyway...in fact...I know I will be between me and you..nudge nudge.

Yes I agree Spinner. Only a few gigs there last year and christmas dates are fairly easy to fill. I might reduce the discount!!!

I had problems with getting work when I lived in the Norfolk area.

I would say that you should add a little on to what you have said originally, as there a few "cowboys" in the area that go out for £100 a night, and some people arent bothered by that when booking. Which is a shame!!

I think if there was a lot of future work and i had available time then i would do it for free. Not much future work then its full price.

I will try anything,once!

Yes indeed, you have to assess its value to yourself.

Even Tesco and Sainsbury use basics like milk and bread as "loss leaders" (Follow da [loss] leader leader . . . )

I think its called using "a sprat to catch a Mackerel" as long as it doesn't become a splatt to catch a miracle
