TonyB 0
I had a stonking NYE at a nice pub in the Essex Countryside called Finchingfield. Its one of those places that time seems to have forgotten and the village is more of a community that centers around the pub. Probably helped by the new owners who took the pub over about 6 months ago and they are both good old cockneys from Londons East End. It was a ticket only party limited to 100 but they ended up selling 135 tickets so the place was packed. Didn't find out until I got there thats it was a 60s/70s themed fancy dress as well. They took over the pub after the smoking ban was introduced and I asked them if they thought it affected trade. They said no, turnover is well up compared to what it was before they took it over. There were very few that went outside for a smoke during the night. I was asked to start off with some background music while the guests arrived when one of the pub owners come up to me to talk about the volume. I thought he was going to say turn it down but he asked for it to be turned up which set a trend for the volume to be maxed out for most of the night. I kept looking at the amps thinking that I must be near the clipping limit but apart from a couple of red flashes on the bass amp, it all seemed to be okay. I had eight lights with me, six of which I use for most of the night and two scanners which I use when it livens up but I was asked if I could put them all on quite early so it was all pretty mad, deafening loud music and loads of lights. Heres a picture of the Macarena, the dance floor was packed all night: http://www.ittiger2.co.uk/pictures/NYE%202007%20003a.jpg I've posted the play list under the playlist thread. Was due to finish at 1am but was having such a good time, it was 1.25am when I thought oops but one of the pub owners came over and asked if I could play until 2am. Finished at 2am but the pub put on their sound system and there were still lots of people there which made it impossible to pack away because there wasn't room, so I loaded lap top and CD's and said I'd be back next day to collect the rest. Go to say it ranks as one of the best gigs of the year (last year). Got loads of hand shakes, cuddles and kisses at the end and a nice bottle of champagne to take home. Andy Westcott 0
Good night for me too - I have photos but I'm not sure whether they came out or not - I'll have a look after me din-dins. Nice old village hall - a bit damp, but 'full of character'... About 60 - 70 people there including kids, so not masses of people but they responded well to most of the music I threw at them, and ranged from 50s rock n roll to current, just as I threatened. Apparently "100 times better disco than last year", which is the kind of thing those of us with a confidence issue like to hear! I've found out why too - it's a case of the difference between a bedroom 'DJ' with his laptop, and a properly equipped professional. YEEE HAAAA!! :cow:

spinner 0
Very good night at an Essex golf club. Background music until ten and a busy floor from then onwards full of people who "don't usually dance" according to one of the members. Majority of the revellers were in the 40-65 age range. It's always interesting to note that some people are "old" at 40 yet others seem quite "young" at 65, which was apparent from some (a minority) of the requests!

The missus & I stayed at the Habtoor Grand for a few days as part of our treat of a holiday back in Feb, it's a very nice place to be! Can you elaborate on how that gig came about ... any photos ... how long are you staying?
robbiedj 0
Well, the pub was packed. Slow starting, most hit the floor about 10ish. Then they didn't want to stop. I actually played Final Countdown at 11, to tell them we were into the last hour of the year and warn them that the bar would close for a short time so that staff could see in the New Year as well. Then 15 min warnings to 11.55. Played Celebration into the Countdown clock, then Big Ben chimes and ALS (longish version to allow all singing, kissing, hugging, then into NY,NY. Used a couple of confetti cannons on the first stroke of midnight. I then did a couple of scottish tracks for the scot contingent, Hoots Mon and Runrig Loch Lomond, and back into party tracks. Finished at 1, with a couple of slowies (Release Me & What's Another Year), Thank You For The Music and, by special request, Flower Of Scotland. No point in rushing around to pack as couldn't get out anyway, so took our time and chatted with a few regulars demanding to know when we would be back. It's nice to work a crowd you know most of, who are appreciative of the work you do. I have done NYE there for many years and have never seen any trouble. That's worth more than anything. Will post playlist when I've downloaded it. You want me to play what? Revelationroadshow 0
Great night for me too. had a feeling it was going to be a tough one - set up in the "family room" which was off the main bar, well away from the normal areas. But after joking with a couple sat just outside - "looks like you have your own jukebox for the night", I took the plunge, upped the volume and encouraged folks to come and join me. Have to say my little room was jam packed for most of the night, particularly at midnight when we all saw the new year in. I opted for the charity jingle aproach (used it for the last 3 years), but the landlord decided to pop BBC1 on right behind me (on mute). So no pressure to get my timings right there then! Fireworks at 11.30 were great - got a chance to bang out some El Divo, auld Langs at midnight with "what a wonderful world" seeing the folk into the new year (the Katie Melua version). Then lots of tears and shouts of "but you've never been shot at" repeatedly. Checked that I hadn't teleported to New York while I wasn't looking and found out we had a returnee from Afganistan.... don't get me started! Can't wait to hear the 2nd most impressive NYE story - Quinny, where are ya, get off the phone to those A listers and NO, Mr Clapton can't come over for tea! lol!

mick 0
Did NYE at my regular Restaurant (6th NYE for them, how time fly's). Mainly older crowd so they were mainly into 1960's and rock n roll. I tried loads of different genres but they wanted their 60's. Dance floor full from 9-30 till we played last track at 1am. Thought I had lost them just after midnight :scared: but they had all gone outside to call friends on their mobiles lol . As last guests left Restaurant, the staff wanted to dance so off we went again until about 1-30am Cascada T2 etc. This as a total contrast to the music played all night. Really enjoyed the gig especially when a regular client thanked me for making the parties so special for him and his wife at the venue. So all in all a fun time. Got home after record pull down and load up at 2-30 ish. Then beef butty, glass of red wine and bed. Happy new year to all you other DJ's out there and the forum Admin :good: - Mick

Norfolk DJ 0
I had a fairly poor night at a local golf club. Illness had brought the attendees down to 44 from about 70, many were very old, and not able to dance for very long. Most went home at just after midnight. At least it gave me a chance to play some different NYE music eg Scottish dancing and plenty of 50/60's, but all in all a slightly damp affair. Main highlight was getting paid. Charity concert with line up including Eric Clapton, Ringo Star, Pete Townsend, Gary Broker, Joe Walsh & Andy Fairweather-Love. The build up to midnight was so intense. 1500+ People and with a few minutes to go the celebs joined in on stage. Huge live projections of big ben so had to nail the chimes. Went brilliant and the effect of the co2 confetti bazooka's sending streams and streams 40ft in the air covering anything and everything. As Big ben finished the band then started straight into Auld Lang Syne. One New Year I will remember for a long long time. Q The Music
