Meet Up In North London

Recommended Posts

I am trying to arrange a dj meeting in North London. I have been offered the back bar of The Woodberry Tavern on Sunday 17th February from 7pm onwards.( no charge, a favour from landlady)

I am hoping to get some new, non-affiliated djs I know of to come along and meet their fellow djs. Maybe a couple of people would like to bring along some gear to demonstrate.

It would be a chance for London, Essex and any fairly local members to have a social evening and chat about various aspects of our profession, including any future developments.

Let me know if you can join us. If enough are willing I might be able to get some dealers I know to come along as well, to let us play .... oops sorry ... inspect some of their gear.

You want me to play what?

It's a great chance to see those goodies that Gary demonstrates so well. Try them out and hear them in action. Much better than a written review.

You can also speak to a member of the LWP (me) face to face and discuss the proposed licences and your views on them.

Not to mention meeting some of your colleagues and sharing a jar (or coca cola) and a game of pool with them.

Families / partners / friends all welcome.

I so tried to make the East Anglian ones - but just cant find the time on the weekend and even got called back to work for the first time.

This however - is right down the road so no reason to not be there.

As asked earlier - what are the times ?

I thought 7 -11 but the place is open until 2 am, so if you are still chatting with people you don't have to leave until Mary gets sick of the sight of us and says goodnight.

Well, not a big turn out.

Nice to meet Bluejools and Jason (and Carmen). I like to find local djs to keep on my contacts list.

Carol had a chat with Carmen about her salsa interest and thinks it would be nice if Jason could make a short (or long tongue out icon ) list of useful tracks. I know we only have about half a dozen and sometimes get requests for "salsa" at parties. It would be nice to be able to offer more choices. You can only play Cuba and Everybody Salsa so many times!

I have to thank Gary and the twins for coming along to such a small event. :thanks:

You all actually missed out on a scoop. Gary brought Denons new piece of kit, a nice mp3 player with 2 built in hard drives, 3 USB points and space for additional cd drives. Lovely little item and not on the market yet.

I think we all want one now!

Might try again later in the year.

I'll ask Camen to post a few tracks later. She's teaching Salsa classes in Colindale and as part of the course, they give away a Salsa CD.

Our gear is having to cope with a wide range of music, Salsa, Merenge, through to 80's New Wave and Club stuff.

She did say that most Salsa dancers don't want the music "mixed", as they prefer a clear stop between tracks - so those that those that want to dance with someone else, are able to move one.

...Its either that, or she doesn't rate my mixing... :dan+ju:

All dance groups are like that, salsa, line dance and ballroom. They do like a clear break between tracks, often because there is a change of tempo.

Stick a list in the music forum and we'll see if anybody else has suggestions too.

Please thank the Denon guys for a great demo of their gear

Thanks to Gary for such a comprehensive demo of the 5500. Definately on my shopping list.

Glad you all enjoyed it guys (and ladies). I've just come back from The Twins and they enjoyed it too, as indeed, did I. Such sessions are a great "two-way street", in my opinion, of benefit to both the manufacturer and the end-user.

As was discussed on the night, end-users, the DJs themselves can speak with us, and can find out more or less every feature on any of the Denon DJ machines in about 20 minutes without the "pressure" of having to think "When is he gonna ask for my credit card?" - as we were there as a manufactuer, not a retailer.

Likewise, I'm all ears when it comes to feature suggestions for Denon kit from the great people I meet at these sorts of nights. One of the features which got added to the DN-HD2500 Professional Hard Drive/Media Controller as part of a free-of-charge user , and got carried onto the new DN-HS5500 was an idea which got mentioned to me last year at a SEDA meeting in Maidstone. That idea made its way from SEDA in Maidstone, to thousands upon thousands of DJ units across the world. (A bit like "The Twins" before they got a Tom Tom :joe: :joe: ).

That said, I cant promise that everyone who explains an idea to me will be able to see their idea appear in the next firmware upgrade for their respective item of Denon DJ kit, but I do pass on all new ideas to the next line of the R&D chain. That part IS a promise.

As is often the case, Sunday evening ended all too soon for me, and before we knew it, it was time to pack away, make our farewells, and zig-zag and double-back, our way through the streets of London, wondering whether we'd drifted into the Congestion Charge zone or not...

Those that weren't there, missed a very pleasant and productive get-together. So, next time, when Robbie organises "North London Meet-up MkII", mark it into your diaries.

Dosen't matter, it was a Sunday.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it, I'll try to do the next one.
