In my opinion, yes she did. She inspired millions with her recovery from cancer and has a pretty clean image as pop stars go (I mean off the stage). She was awarded it for her service to music.

I definitely think she deserves an OBE. I wrote a long reply on another board about why, but it sounded all a bit cheesy so I'll just say I agree with most of the comments above. :joe:

Being awarded an OBE for doing something to earn you money seems a bit odd to me, as does being awarded one for overcoming cancer - plenty of people like that in the UK who will never sniff an OBE.

 

And what is her nationality these days?

I have no idea why they choose who they do, but why not, if footballers can get one why not Kylie. Thing is if you save lives, do endless work for charity or stuff like that, they are the people who should be honoured.

I think she does deserve it, she is an icon and a fantastic role model which a lot of people will get inspiration from when trying to recover from their cancer.

 

Anyway, we're going to see her at the O2 in August, should be fun...

Pro's and cons really

As a role model with a pretty clean image - yes
For inspiring others in fighting back cancer - yes

but as others here have said, quite rightly, lots of other people do that too, so what makes her, and any other celeb/footballer/whatever deserve it?

I just think she's been so lucky, . . . lucky, lucky, lucky!

She got her OBE from her contribution to the music industry, and if you consider she started her career in the 80's and she's still there today I think she deserves it. I don't think that's just luck.

 

Brian, I saw her last year in concert and she was brilliant. Sings much better live than I would have thought and made a really good connection with the crowd too. If you like a "show" as well as just seeing a performer sing then you'll love the concert.

Status Quo were going in the sixties, and are still creaking across the stages of the world.

They made some pretty popular tunes too, but (correct me if I'm wrong) never have they had an OBE for any contribution to the music industry, and they shaped it and contributed to it rather more than kylie ever did - she was just a producer's puppet, whereas the 'Quo did their own thing, and still do. smile icon

 

And of course there are many other bands and singers for whom the same could be said.

It's hard for me to comment on Status Quo because I really don't like their music. If I want to listen to real rock and roll I'd choose the true pioneers any day. I think Quo's covers of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard etc songs are cringe making.

Erm did I say I don't think Status Quo deserved an OBE?? I'd be interested to know how you jumped to that conclusion from what I wrote? Many performers have received OBE's that deserve one but I don't like their music. Eg. Paul McCartney is a Sir, and I'm sure he really deserves to be one, but that doesn't stop me hating his music.

Personally speaking no.

 

Loads of people do good work for charity and get nothing. People who work full time and dont earn mega millions are the people who should be honoured.

 

The majority of actors/footballers/musicians who do a lot of good worj for "charideee" are doing it to raise there own profile not because they really give a monkeys about the cause. So Kylie/any other artistlot to the music has contributed a lot to the music industry.
