3. What is the Name of your Disco?

sounds supreme disco (also kgm promotions)

 

4. How long have you been a DJ?

Since 1974 (although I did have a 10 year break)

 

5. What inspired you to become a DJ?

I wanted to help make money for the national fire services benevolent fund

 

6. Are you a Full/Part Time DJ? If part time what else do you do?

part time I’m an assistant manager for a well known electronics retailer

 

7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc)

Private parties in the 40’s 50’s age group

 

8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience?

Fell off stage after a big build up!!!

 

9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself)

Follow my instincts and go full time doing what I enjoyed best.

 

10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"?

I am mature not over priced and will play most types of music (puck rock not included)

 

11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why?

a smoke machine that only works at home!!!

 

12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be?

A new deck unit/stand.

 

 

13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be?

The light show that I see on my pc in windows media player (although I can do this just take our 32” hd tv and link it to my lap top (wife might not agree though!))

 

14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig?

A record deck failed and we worked on one deck

 

15. What do you think is the best thing about DJing?

Being given the honour of being able to entertain people

 

16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJing?

not always having enough time to play all of the requests

 

17. What would make you stop DJing (if anything)?

punk rock!!!

 

18. How do you think DJing will change, in the next 5 years?

It will go more towards the mp3/computer control

 

19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig?

“what you playing that for mate” having just requested it

 

20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ?

follow your heart

 

21. And worst advice you were ever given?

don’t do free gigs

 

22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer)

I buy the now that’s what I call music discs but because I play mainly 70’s and 80’s music I don’t feel I have to keep up.

24. One piece of advice you'd give to someone just starting out.

just go out there and enjoy yourself

cd / hard drive

 

26. Have you embraced/adapted any ideas that you've read about on DJU - if so what?

Insurance / how to set up a web page / play lists

 

27. What is your best gig ever and your worst?

it has now to be new years eve 2007 it was a fantastic night and now I know why I m a dj.

 

Worst was last year doing a 16th birthday party where all the girls were dressed from the film moulon rouge but the average age was about 15! Now scrubbed under 18’s from the to do list!

 

28. Apart from 'Word of Mouth' what is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco?

yellow pages / yell.com

 

29. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union?

yes and now its too many to remember.

 

30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here...

Always do your best. Be well prepared and even if no one is dancing read your crowd are they singing along, finger tapping. Foot tapping etc if so you have got it right as we are there to entertain this does not always lead to dancing all night long

 

31. How many gigs do you do a year, how many would you like to do?

18 last year 24 would be a nice figure

 

32. What is your average charge for a booking?

£130.00

 

33. How many tracks do you have in your music collection?

about 8000 plus I think!
