TonyB 0 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Share Posted January 12, 2008 Probably not a good idea. Using a 4 Ohm and 8 Ohm speaker on the same channel with give a nominal impedance of 2.67 Ohms which a lot of amps will not be stable at. Link to post Share on other sites
superstardeejay 0 Posted January 12, 2008 Report Share Posted January 12, 2008 If you connect one 8 and one 4 ohm in parallel to each channel you will get 2.7ohms per side, if your amp can drive this you should be ok, most cheap amps wont though, what are you using? If the amp isn't specified to drive this, it will overheat and possibly fail prematurely. I'm not really a fan of mixing dissimilar speakers like this unless they're meant to be run together eg a bass and a top. Getting the power from each type of speaker matched may be hard due to the different impedance, meaning you may inadvertently overdrive one or not get the max from the other! .
