exbutlinred82 0
Help again please!! Have loaded all my Karaoke Discs onto my external hard drive.I have figured out how to get them to play. Which is the cheapest option for getting the picture from Laptop to my five year old TV. Got a hunch I should be using a stubby little oval outlet from my laptop but to which input on the TV please.

Mattaious 0
I use the same maplins adaptor - picked mine up off fleabay for £18 Decent bit of kit - but no used it to its full capabilities yet. I personally dont use a tv - Use a normal PC monitor. Works a treat - And if i need to link the external screen (extended desktop) to a large screen etc then ill use the maplin adaptor. If you need any help Pm me and ill give ya a buzz one night. Ta Matt Moderator
rictic 0
if you have an s video output on laptop you can use this into a scart adaptor into the scart on the t.v. this is what i use and it is dead simple and cheap.

Yep this is what I use, it allows you to easily extend the cables if you want/need to position the screen further away from you. I tend to use the Svideo - phono cable as Svideo - Svideo tends not to give such a clear picture if going through a scart adaptor. rictic 0
i had a local shop make up a split s video lead a while back and i get excellent pic quality on my colour tv and the big lcd in the bar too. i had a 10m and a 5 m spliced together works lovely. total cost = £15.00 for the leads and labour, all soldered and wrapped and sealed. i mentioned the scart adaptor as his tv is quite old and may not have s vid or phono Edited January 14, 2008 by rictic

RichardP 0
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...tv&doy=14m1 got one of these from maplins when they were £30 works fine i did have a vga to s video and composite adapter but couldnt get it to work was told that the signal needs to be converted Does anyone know if it's possible with these adaptors, to have ONLY the full screen video playing on it (i.e. to the external TV or video projector) ? I'm curious about video DJing etc, but would want the ability to just show the video only on the external connection, i.e. no windows, icons, information (PAUSE, PLAY, Elapsed Time and all that stuff!)
Mattaious 0
The maplins adaptors are basically i gizmo for the use and ease of the windows extended desktop. So what you see on your monitor/screen would be screen 1 and the outputs screen 2 When i use mine on PCDJ i see the full works on the laptop - but on the other monitors/tv's connected to the maplin device see my extended desktop - of which the only think displayed is my company logo, then when the kraoke track is playing the words - Ive used the extended desktop to play music videos and dvd;s and havent seen any other buttons appear or anything. Hope this helps If not - ignore my ramblings.
FrankieJ 0
I purchased one of these and they are good little gizmos although i did try to go from a karaoke player via phono and into a VGA monitor but couldnt get a signal from it so I purchased a new LCD monitor which has both VGA and phono inputs. nigelwright7557 0
A PC monitor would be much better, a TV doesnt really have the bandwidth to cope with PC signals. Small text will come out blurred if at all.
vokf 0
A PC monitor would be much better, a TV doesnt really have the bandwidth to cope with PC signals. Small text will come out blurred if at all. Small text? This thread is about Karaoke, where text is a decent size. The higher bandwidth of a Monitor will clean up the edges of the text - fine if you're 12" away on an office desk , but if you're 3ft or more away with possibly disco lights wizzing around, no one will see anything wrong. I assume the OP doesn't want to use the TV as a monitor for PC normal PC use - even then, knocking the resolution to 640x480 is still usable (just). To the OP: A TV with Composite, S-Video, or Scart will be fine. Scart normally carries most signals anyway, and the order of preference is: RGB, S-Video then Composite. If you're using a projector, the quality becomes more important, but most support VGA-in anyway. Jason
wendyice 0
14" portable tv with a dvd player i got for 12.00 from a carboot. i also run into a 42" plasma via a split s video lead and get good quality pics on both. tho i gotta admit i nearly burnt the plasma screen by not using a screensaver when the karaoke was on pause and i had the logo on constant. oops
