i do karaoke too and love it. ok i do get the sort of people that you mentioned but that goes with the job. i will try to accomodate them if i can but i tend not to let it get to me.

i put on screen the next few singers sometimes and that seems to help.

it's funny to me is the old okie cokie karaoke, i love the ones who cant sing. the good singers i put up with lol.

great for getting girls names too :ads:

kamakaze karaoke is fun as well, they dont know what they are gonna sing. can have a right laff doing that.

but each to his own in the end i say.

Karaoke whingers are exactly the same as disco whingers who ask the same questions about the songs they've requested.

But karaoke can be a lot of fun. Especially when there are some less than great singers who like to have fun. I hate the regulars who sing the same song(s) every week, they make it boring though.

On Friday night I was working at a staff party where we essentially played pass the mic. Each singer got to choose who was singing next (and if that person didn't choose a song within 5 mins, I chose one for them). It was great fun.

Something else that worked well was at one of Eazy's karaoke residencies which I attended regularly as a customer. We ran "Challenge MiTCH" where people could put songs on Eazy's website that I had to sing, usually with disastrously brilliant results.

I have to say I love karaoke nights. There's definitely a lot more fun to had at them. The whingers are an irritation, but no more so than any other night.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

I did 6 months of it in Gran Canaria, 6 nights a week and saw the bad and ugly with not much good.

Drunks singing out of tune, people who think they're good etc etc I would rather stick pins in my eyes lol

I did my first Karaoke the other week using a colleagues gear, I usually pass any Karaoke bookings to him but he couldn't cover this one.

I quite enjoyed it really and certainley found it easier than a normal disco, as they provide half the entertainment for you! It was a combined disco/karaoke too, so whenever the floor thins out you can just stick a singer on!

Karaoke doesn't bother me. Have a bit of a distaste for listening to 'I Will Survive' but all in all, it can be fun. smile icon

I think there was too many people there that night that took themselves too seriously.

If your any good you would be out singing in a band not doing Karaoke.

Hopefully different crowd next week who are up for more of a laugh.

The worse the voice the better.

I always mix music inbetween the next singer just to keep some atmosphere going.

Do most of you Karaoke regulars do the same??

Just wondering as don't really get out too karaoke gigs at all

I enjoy the karaoke side of the business.

And without the usual moans and groans and everything that has been mentioned in this thread - i dont think it would be the same.

Adds to the atmosphere.

Yeah, I play music between the singers - usually keeping it in line with the party style atmostphere (sp) I also do a lot of mic work and introduce the singers like they were famous celebs etc. I have a good laugh and so do the punters! tongue out icon

I currently do not do Karaoke, for one reason I cannot and will not sing! I never do karaoke if I'm out on the beer and never will.

My question is this ..... do you have to be able to sing to operate Karaoke, to get people going etc. Every Karaoke jock I've seen has sung, albeit not Albert Hall standard but sing nonetheless. http://planetsmilies.net/music-smiley-7506.gif

The simple answer is no you don't but it does help, playing the right music and having a bubbly personality will do more for the atmosphere needed to get them singing.

I find that sometimes being a good singer is the last thing you should be as it can put others off trying for fear of sounding bad, other times I find myself doing a solo singing night as nobody wants to sing and they have a great time dancing the night away instead.

Use whatever talents you have to make the most of what you can do, there's no right way to do anything and there's always a better way - find a path to suit you.

Yep, obviously not just me who has the same reasons why THEY should sing next thrust at me LOL

Part and parcel of Karaoke, but all in all I still enjoy it, can be quite entertaining no matter if the singer is really good or really bad still good fun.

Good Idea Dan, I do quite a lot of combined disco & karaoke, previously I have tried to get all the karaoke done in a time slot say 9pm till 10pm........might try it your way next time see how that works out.

I've seen Karaoke hosts who can't sing for toffee, but they had a fantastic bubbly personality which worked really well as they took the P out of themselves.

I personally can sing, but deliberately never sing my best when starting the night, and if they're not getting up to sing, I make my singing get worse & worse till (hopefully) someone does get up for a go.

I can sing (ish).......

Depends what the song is, Im better at ballards than the faster tempo stuff........Im not a brilliant singer however.

But I think that proves to the audience that you really dont have to be that good to get up and have a go........if everyone that gets up is a brilliant singer I belive that could be slightly offputting to the people in the crowd that aint quite so good.

before i decided to be a DJ again i had to think realy hard as to whether or not to do karaoke, i had so much trouble back in the 80s with karaoke, i decided to do it along side the disco but not make it a feature.

It works fairly well

but saying that i have just taken a booking where the client is a karaoke singer and she has all her own equipment which she is bringing along.

so i will be working along side of her

have you worked along side any other dj or karaoke dj? if so how did it go
