East Anglia Dj Meet - 10th Feb 2008

Recommended Posts

Have emailed as many East Anglis DJ's as I can find, apologies if any were missed, but the details are as follows:-

THE SECOND EASTERN DJ MEET

Date: 10th Feb. 2008

Venue: Comfort Inn, Thetford

Address: Thetford Road, Northwold, Thetford, Norfolk , IP26 5LQ

Time: 12:30 – 18:00

Following the huge success of our initial meeting in November, we are proud to announce the second date for the Eastern DJ Meeting

You may or may not be aware, but we are in the process of forming a regular DJ meet for the East Anglia region. An initial meeting / social gathering took place in November last year and following its success a date has now been set for the second meeting.

It is our intention to develop a regular meeting where mobile DJ's and Karaoke jocks can meet, discuss, network and support each other. Those who attended the last meet will already know how useful that can be.

The venue is located here: http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|Comf...rd%20IP26%205LQ

Further details/agenda WILL follow shortly, but we aim to include the following:

- New products from Pro-light LEDJ Syncro Panels, RGB DMX Skirt Starcloth,

Acme Miracal LED, Nebula and Orion Lasers and Vertical Fogger.(see them for the first time at the meet)

- Loudspeaker showdown - including a Bose L1, Mackie SRM450, JBL and more

- A talk on "How to charge what you're worth"

- DMX programming made easy (or we hope)

- A members show on display with a chance to hear how and why they do it like they do

- Swap shop / bring and buy stand (Opportunity to exchange/sell unwanted items)

- Gig shop (more details to come!)

We will also be continuing our discussions on the future of the meets and how to move things forward.

No need to even think about not coming.

As if that wasn't enough, we plan to have a moonflower side by side comparison, so please, bring along whatever you use and we'll rig it up, the more moonflowers the merrier!

Please can you let us know if you're attending.

Email : krazykaz@kkdisco.co.uk

Tel : kaz - 01354 656519

Finally, if you would rather we took you off our mailing list, just email us back and say so - we won't mind!

Many thanks,

Matthew, Andrew & Adam

Just a quick post to all members and visitiors on this site that are planning on coming along...

Can you PLEASE bring a long a copy of your business card/flyer.

We are wanting to compile a list of details of every DJ in the area that comes along. That way a list can be created to find out DJs who are in each specific area of the region. You can then socialise with DJs in your area whilst at the meet, and pass referals on.

OK, with less than a week to go, I thonk it's time for an update. LOTS of things have been going on in the background....

Firstly, very pleased to let you know that Inpiration Sound and Light will be joining us this time - Darren has asked if he can bring some new products, will have some EV speakers in tn showdown and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have! Don't forget to go to the cashpoint before you come or have your credit card to hand.

The following is now confirmed:

1. Bose L1 demo (100% deffinate this time)

2. Loudspeaker showdown

2. Moonflower side by side demo's

3. Members show and "parkinson" interview

4. "charging what you are worth" talk

5. Small DMX workshops

Just in case you didn't get the email:

There are still a few bits we need help with:

1. Speakers - we do need a couple more entries for the showdown. If you'd be happy to bring yours along, then please get in touch.

Hi Guys and gals

i must apologise for not saying goodbye at the meet on 10th FEB.

i got a phone call saying my wife was allowed to come out of hospital, so i fled without haste.

i was nice to meet all who i spoke to.

the speaker showdown was interesting,i liked the EV`s, bose was ok but not for me,

and as for the impossibled......... i am getting one very soon. brilliant light.

and those square lights on the set on the right, what a waste of money.

looking forward to meeting you again next time, and Kaz dont forget the strip for me...lol

As you may know search engines (particularly Google) rank sites higher if they have other sites linking to them.

Well then, another Eastern DJ meet over!

Thanks to all those who made it over for the afternoon, we had about 35 people atttending - about twice as many as in November.

The afternoon kicked off with a "pass the mic" round the room introduction so every one could get to know each other, followed swiftly by a demo from Prolight. Many thanks to Darren From Inspiration in Peterborough for coming along as our retailer and offering some deals on the Prolight gear. Opinions it seems were fairly mixed, Some not quite liking the whole LED developments, with others getting the cheque book out! Personaly, I loved the LED screens ("those square lights on the set on the right" - sorry DJH), but a little te costly for what they were, not that impressed by the Impossibled and I think we all agreed that the RGB deck star cloth was quite nasty. Oh and then there was the virtical fogger - have absolutely no idea why or where I could use one, but it was remote controlled and I had the remote - great fun!

After some soggy chips and a burger, we carried on with the Speaker showdown. Starting off with Quinneys huge JBL rig - unfortunately we had a few techincal problems with laptops and sound cards, so I'm not quite sure they sung at there best! They were followed by Lukes Peavey rig - good solid and reliable sound. And then there was the Bose L1. Oh my god! I'm not sure if I speak for the whole room, but I feel I need to remorgage the house, or sell some vital organs for research. I've heard the hype and heard the varying comments, but the sound was quite simply stunning - we also now have doubts about Adam's (AHD) sexuality as he did insist on playing rather a lot of Lionel Richie! The speaker showdown carried on - my Mackies supprised a few - next time you see a "Mackie SRM 450's have no bass" comment, ask someone who was at the meet if that's true (a few converts I think). The Class D's were a suprise. Maybe not as open and detailed as other on display, but if yopu want value for money! Well, if it's value for money you want, maybe it was the Intimidation that stole the day - £90 seems a bargain for such a small speaker. Again, not the best sounding, but if you want value....

We did then have a demo of some EV gear carried out by Darren from Inspiration and the sound was superb - but then so was the gear. Really nice to hear the quality produced by an Alan & Heath mixer and some superb Pioneer decks.

I should make mention to Luke, who kindly set his show up and was subject to a little question and answer session which I'm not sure he was completely expecting. Luke works mainly in the younger market and the show seemed perfect for that.

Other highlights of the afternoon included a raffle - prizes and T-shirts kindly donated by Darren, a moonflower comparison (which ended up in a small scuffle to see who could get £150 notes on the table quickest to secure the HID Acme colido unit - sorrt Sandy).

All in all a fun, enjoyable and informative afternoon. Thanks to all who attended, but equally thanks to Adam, Quinney and Kaz for all the help this time around.

We have a date for the next one - 27th April I believe, but I'm sure one of the guys will correct me if I'm wrong!

Well i thought it was a very very good day! It was nice to get away and switch off from other things which happend over the weekend.

Firstly a huge thank you to you all who attended and made the effort to come along. These meets are always helped and pushed along by the attendance. Without you we wouldnt have anyone to talk to and the participation for our second event seemed good. Lets hope the next one in April is even more well attended.

All im gunna say about Lionel Richie is that he's a legend. However i was only playing the track to show you how well the Bose re-produces it and how it can allow you to hear bits of the track you havent heard.

Matts Mackies...i did like. At the setting they were at, they still needed a little tweak on the mid top, but other than that I still think their a good cab for the money.

Many thanks to Luke Wood (Woodsy) for setting up his show. The stairville moving heads ive seen in a better light now and think their a brilliant fixture to use for people wanting to move into the moving head market.......plus Lukes EFX500s were great also.

Andy Quinns JBL rig........like i mentioned to matt at the end, I thought it could of sounded a lot better and sweeter. It was very "boom and tiss" on the first big demo with not much colour or clarity to it at all. I think everyone noticed this as soon as we switched over to Lukes Peavey Pro setup which just seemed to shine 10 times over the JBL. For those that didnt know, Quinney did locate his fault to a fried sound card, which explains why it sounded crap. Im sure we'll invite Quinney to come back again in the future to redisplay and let us all have a second opinon on them.

Darren & Inspiration. Nice to see a retailer making the attendance and coming down to show off some new toys. Me, Quinney & matt have always said that we need a retailer that can support us all, wherever we are in the area, and im sure a lot of you thought Darren was spot on. Obviously it has to be financially viable for Darren to return, but im sure we'd all like to see him return.....the offer is open!

EV - nice sound, however i thought the demo was a little too loud causing sharpness and fierceness. The room was only small, and i know Darren was running a good system, but i always believe a sound system should be demo'd at a comfortable level....not being blasted. Still good systems though, and the little 4 cab system would be great for the small parties.

The Initimidation speakers and the Class-ds did surprise me. For the price they are, they seem a great product for both new djs, current djs, and also to purchase as a back up or add on.

We're looking to finalise the date in April, however we are either looking at Sunday 27th April 08, or the week before on Sunday April 20th. Whatever seems ok for most of the members. We'd love to see you all back!

I think one last thanks should also go to golden girl Kaz. Without her, we wouldnt of had the attendance we did. Most of you would of recieved an email from kaz inviting you along, and her dedication and time to colate all the information and spend time emailing you all was so well appreciated. So thank you Kaz!

Thanks for the effort put in Guys ( & kaz)

It made a change from sitting in front of the t.v. on a sunday afternoon

I am just pleased that Inspiration didnt take plastic and I had little cash........ otherwise I would have been a grand lighter in my bank account.

Thanks for an enjoyable day. Look forward to the next

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops
