At some point I will be looking to take my show to the next level and start including and building up a collection of videos. I'm not interested in doing Karaoke, this is purely a disco thing. Simple questions really to start off - What hardware are you using ? - What software are you using and how do you find it ? - Where do you source you videos from and what sort of cost per video ? Nik A few gave me the third degree back in '04 when I was considering...still glad I made the decision! Have a mixture of Pioneer and Numark equip (mixer & monitors) but would like to upgrade the mixer to a dedicated AV mixer in the future (edirol perhaps or new Pioneer if I win the lotto!) 2 x DVJX1s, DJM600 for the audio, Canon DV camera for filming, various DV editing software titles, Canon EOS 400D for photo content ...but alas, the PC is not up to the demands of the mind for live stuff. SW Editing, once tried adobe but couldn't get on with it - the PC (graphics card) no good. Looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade the PC in the future too! Really need those numbers on the lotto me thinks! Making your own video content is great but quite time consuming, especially if you are a perfectionist! There are visual discs available to buy - some are visually stunning but the 'satisfaction' of making your own, although demanding, is very rewarding when the crowd react and 'get the intention!' I know nothing about the OTSAV or PCVJ stuff but understand it is pretty cool. Good tip - where poss, always try before you buy. Yep, mixmash are pretty good. I get very good reactions from them and have won work due to using them.. I don't know i'm behind the decks mostly ;-) Seriously though I know they won't cut it in a big room, but I'm with Nik. They came at the right price (hence 20" versions), and it set me aside from other discos. I get asked about putting pictures etc on them but normally i just run visuals with a bouncing message or picture. 24"+ versions would be nice though. ---------------------------- Thanks ... Being a tight git normally working on my own I have think about these things, not because I'm not prepared to put in a bit more effort, but more because I feel that there is a point where people would feel it takes too long. In terms of my screen, displaying only pictures and visuals, not pop videos, then it is difficult to quantify. Probably not a great deal, but the reason why I started the thread was I guess to manage the effort, outlay and busness trade off. In terms of setup, they take 2 or 3 minutes max as they just attach to the vertical pole, then 2 wires each. ---------------------------- Thanks ... That is usually the best/only space to spread such a mass of light beams hitting a surface. I find it works well, don't have any screens to contend with and it is like watching wall-to-wall television spreading right from the lounge to the bedroom since you are into that comparison smile icon As for the question, how much difference do those using video find it makes to winning business, and increasing fees? I would say "absolutely zilch". The way to win business is do a good job and play the right tunes. Also you find people come on to the dance floor and look at them also we some times use a thing called a stage, you may of heard of one lol And no one has mentioned VPL !!! Has anyone looked into the cost Because the question was not about VPL it was about who uses video... Why not start a thread about VPL??? I guess we will lol But I agree that you need personality and the right music but if anything gives you an edge over the competition then I cant see a problem with that. I have used the screens since Nov 07 and not had one negative comment from there use along the lines of your above argument. I have only had good comments and more interest in booking my roadshow.
