and I thought the I colour was 4 x 500w lamps......

i think it is but 500w one colour then it switches to next colour. and i think the i colour will work stand alone ,so will those led par cans, im sure i saw them advertised where you have an option , dmx/standalone

I have a pair of I-Color 3 units with dedicated controller which allows single colour selection, colour mixing, chasing, either programmed or sound to light, dimming etc. etc.

With either these or the I-Color 4 it's a simple job to change the lamps for 300 watts units if you prefer.

The J type lamps ( same as used in floodlights ) are extremely cheap.

I was recently faced with the same dilema.

I was against the par cans because of the control issue. I have experimented with DMX and found it too much hassle. So I thought the I Colours would have been ideal because of the dedicated controller mentioned above.

HOWEVER - when i went to see my local retailer, he had in stock a new ACME LED PAR CAN KIT, which contains 4 LED Par Cans, AND THE EXACT SAME CONTROLLER that runs the I-Colours. (Whether it is the same internally, I dont know, but it looks identical externally and does exactly the same functions).

I cant remember the exact price, but i remember it cost me slightly more than 4 LED par cans from Thomann.

I am delighted with my choice.

i see its just i dont want another light controller to lug around (got a rack mounted iec switch/chase one at the mo so was thinking maybe led par can .can you just plug them in and away you go( quote from led par can advert)The LEDJ LED Eco 56 is a Par 56 with RGB colour mixing. Due to the use of LED's, the lamp life is extremely long and the power consumption is very low. The LED 56 contains 153 LED's (51 red, 51 green and 51 blue). It can be controlled by 5 DMX channels or used with its built-in programs or music-controlled by its internal microphone.

i know i wont be able to play with the colours as i want but am quite happy for it to do its own sequences

It's hardly a lot to lug about. I can slot it into a 1U space 7 it's about 5 inches by 7 inches

The demo I was given with the par cans also worked with this basic controller making them really easy to control for the Par Can LED's.

Chasing all on, color etc can all be changed and speed etc.

The controller did more than I thought to control the cans.

You can get DMX Desks now as well for about £80 as well.
