As well as ebay, forums like this one are a great place to buy, most sellers are bound to be honest by virtue of the fact that they have a reputation to keep. Neil B Link to post Share on other sites

Just like our own sales area I started off buying 2nd hand stuff and infact i still have some stuff in the garage Its good to see young blood getting into the business, and your enthusiasm (sp) is Brilliant! Do your homework carefully and fix the true value before bidding. I can't think of the number of times I've seen an item bid way over the price you can buy the same thing full retail with all warranties and legal rights intact. DJJEG 0 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Share Posted February 3, 2008 I am one of the people who sells lighting on E-Bay & you can get good deals When i refit or replace lighting in a club or bar most of the time the owners scrap the old lighting, what i do is strip them down, clean up & replace any damaged/ broken parts But as other members have pointed out you have got to know your limit & do your research As i have a trade account with a couple of suppliers the prices of some new lights/ equipment are a bit high on e-bay compared with visiting a real shop Amps & speakers i would not touch But overall 2nd hand lights no problem as parts are cheap and if you dont like it put it on e-bay!!!!!! tongue out icon Link to post Share on other sites

I used to buy second hand off ebay but some of it despite being described as nearly new was either worn out or had problems. A shop might provide better second hand gear coz you are covered by teh sale of goods act unless you buy them as is. I am a bit odd as I build my own gear. It means I can get parts if anthing fails. Its also easier to fix if you have your own circuit diagrams. Some of the pro stuff is so full of extra circuits for bar graphs etc that its impossible to find your way around easily. Many companies wont part with circuit diagrams. I am very wary of buying off ebay. I have bought a couple of amps that were no where near the power ratings advertised. You have to be careful with speakers too but that goes for any vendor. What is 1000 watts to one guy is 250 to another ! The 1000 watt amp I bought struggles to put out 100 watts !! The valve sound is also so much better too. Sadly they are expensive to buy and maintain, just spent a fortune on a new set of valves ! Link to post Share on other sites

Or do you mean the 100 watt "1000 watt amp?! I understand what you're saying though - a valve amp can be driven into partial distortion and not actually sound that bad, unlike the hard clipping of solid state stuff.
