Omni-national Weddings

Recommended Posts

OK I've made up the word in the title but Multi-National Weddings doesn't seem quite right

Each year I find the number of weddings I do where one partner is from another Country (sometimes both) is on the increase.

This is a trend that I expect will increase even more. 50 years ago most people would marry someone from the same town/village but with increased migration and the internet this is no longer the case.

When I look back over the last few months I have had weddings with Grooms from all over the UK & Ireland plus Germany, Greece & Israel, Brides from the UK & Ireland plus America, New Zealand & South Africa (with a Russian one coming up).

For us DJs it makes life a lot more interesting and also means that we have to rely more heavily on the internet to research their culture/music etc.

Is anyone else noticing this trend or are the people in your area still marrying their cousins

Well we are in a great big melting pot, and I welcome it wholeheartedly. I have not noticed this could be on the increase, but I have not been monitoring this, although I guess that the ease of travel helps this 'trend'. It does make the job more interesting and fun. Being exposed to other cultures, ways of thinking etc.. is fascinating. As an aside, one thing which is quite noticeable at all these gigs is the way the crowd don't drown in alcohol to have fun, so everything is also good natured.

Getting to hear new music is also great.

Absolutely love them. One of the most spectacular was the groom from Albania, but brought up in Italy. They brought some traditional music, but only play one, perhaps two tracks, the brits won't understand / like it, yeah, right, 1 hour later. Try and visualise a cross between European gypsy and Zorba's dance.

Then of course Indian weddings, Hindu & Bhangra music.

And of course not forgetting the American wedding, these can be emence fun, depending on where they come from, the mid west states being industrial / farming tend to be straight in fun and party, Texas, who cares as long as we can shoot something, New England down to (almost) Virgina are as close as you will get to a british style wedding, down through the Carolina's, Georgia, Alabama, yee har to the hoe down, Last but not least the South West - California, well there so high and live in a fantasy world, as long as it's "rocky" they'll go for it.

Let's go for more of them!!!!

..playing all the hits for you...

....whether you may be....

Why can't I see what i going on???

Omni-national Weddings?

I know exactly what you mean boyo.

You see, down here in Welsh Wales we are just about coming to terms with mixed marriages, oh yes.

Two years ago a lad here from Upper Llanwyrfadach wanted to marry a girl from Lower Llanwyrfadach.

Dur, I tell you boyo, it damn-near caused a riot. The sheer heresy of it all, bringing these . . . these . . . foreigners into our village. Next thing you know they'll be taking over.

So, I tell you, we soon put a stop to that idea. No matter, its all over now.

But I have seen the lad around recently, and between you and me, I think he's now got his beady eye on a ewe up on Daffyd Evans farm.

Mmmm, and a pretty little thing she is too.

Omni-national Weddings? not here yet. Dim Diolch!

I can see an increase,

And i think the internet is the biggest producer of couples meeting etc,

Many years ago, A couple met through friends or family or even arranged mariage.

Now, with the easy access to dating sites and possible chat rooms etc. You can meet and chat to people all over the world. Also alot more people have backpackers holidays or years out of work to move to other countries. From there they may meet there true love.

So all in all, I reckon its brilliant, Brings another clientelle base to cater for?
