Went to HMV in Swansea today with the usual hope of getting some new 7" vinyl singles.

Could not find them in the usual place or anywhere.

Had to ask someone.

They do not do them anymore!

Lack of demand according to the person I spoke to.

Shame. Not many if any CD singles there either!

So I have to go to an even bigger store or download the tracks! No way. Could wait and see if they are on Now 70 but that is not until the Summer..

Our local store stopped selling vinyl back in the late 90s.

Apart from a few 12" singles and a small handful of promotional 7".

The times are a changing...

I don't even have a record player.

At home we have been all MP3 for the last 5 years at least. Djing is MP3 with CD's only carried for backup emergancies and as soon as i can afford another MP3 unit, they will go too.

Yes vinyl is dissappearing faster and faster nowadays. There's now no longer ANY music shops (can't call them rtecord stores any more really), in my home town who sell round 7inch or 12inch objects (except the frisbee section of the local Toys'r'us)

Also, have a search for the phrase "audiophiles may have to resign themselves" in Google (don't forget the quotes).

This phrase is from an article which was first reported on back in 2002, defining that vinyl (as in the stuff that music records are made from), and therefore music records themselves, will no longer be made in 2009/2010, due to "green" or environmental issues.

Of course, those who play solely from vinyl, and/or wave the "you ain't a real DJ n'less yer play it from vinyl" have been debunking the article at every opportunity, but...here we are, 2 years off of that reported "no more vinyl" date, stating that we can't find vinyl in the shops.

The question is, I guess, which will kill off sales of new vinyl tunes first, vinyl demand (or lack of it) or Vinyl Vs The Environment? Either way, I doubt we'll see new vinyl for very much longer at all..

Haha. Went in several times last year and there was a nice rack of vinyl. Shame.

Was in Cardiff and got The Coral and One Night Only singles on vinyl for 99p each. Lots of it in there still.

Have to say Staines HMV as vinyl. Saw some articles last year stating that acts like Arttic Monkey's etc where insisting that their chart tunes came out on vinyl as a first choice.

We are in a digital age, you just can't do a Canute.

In January 2006 Nikon, a name synonymous with the highest standards of photography, announced it was stopping production of all film cameras. There is just no market for the stuff any more.

Do we hear a cry, "you ain't a real photographer unless you use a film camera"?

Psst! anyone wanna buy a classic Canon A1, with full set of motor drives, zoom and wide angle lenses, etc, etc.

Built strong enough to hammer posts in. Thankfully, because that's all its useful for now. Cost me a helluva lot of money when I bought it all, and that was back in the days when money was worth something.

Ah memories :(

It's been 14 years since Woolworths stopped selling 7 inch singles.

The last I bought was in 1996.

I think bands such as Oasis and Blur made a point of relaesing on 7 inch for quite a while after that.

NOW series was also available on a record format until 1997, I think NOW 36 was the last one.

I still have quite a few NOW albums on vinyl only (I think my first one was NOW 4 or 5). The CD Versions, (when they started to do them) up until a point (can't remember which) didn't include all the tracks that were on the vinyl either!

I did think about buying some of the older NOW albums I'm missing (= quite a few), but when I saw some of the prices, it might take a bit longer than I was hoping...

Have to admit I miss being able to buy new vinyl.

I still have a turntable at home as part of my hi fi setup and still regularly play my old records.

There is no excitement anymore of buying the latest music. Records are more of a physical thing and it was exciting to see the new cover art, sleeve lyrics and general way it was packaged. Then it was exciting to finally get the slab of vinyl out of the sleeve, pulling it from the static and just looking at this marvelous piece of design and engineering. It's just the whole business of physically putting the record on the deck, placing the needle at the beginning and those first few crackles resounding from the speakers......AAHHHHH Happy Days.

Now what do we do. The latest single just gets downloaded on to our laptops. No artwork. No physical prescence. No Soul. It's just not that exciting anymore. I no longer get excited waiting for a new release becasue its just a case of clicking a few buttons. ITS JUST BORING.

For me I do use a laptop but I don't enjoy it and I am sure there are others who feel the same.

Personally I have decided to retire at the end of 2009 anyway. When mp3's started to take over the magic of buying music had completely gone now and just isn't fun anymore.

Flicking through racks of cd's just isn't the same as flicking through records.

Also as a designer the whole business of designing album covers is a fascinating world that the younger generation are going to miss out on. Very sad.

The only stores I have seen with a good selection of vynil are in central london..... not much use to you in wales tho. However I am sure they would order them for you.

Unfortunately CD singles seem to be going the same way.

when will these people realise some of us want quality and not the shoddy 192kb downloads they palm us off with.

The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Happy Easter.. well I have seen easter eggs in the shops
