And Tonight I Left At Home...

Recommended Posts

Last night's gig got me thinking. What vital bit of equipment have you at one point left at home and not realised until there's no turning back and how did you manage without it?

I arrived at my wedding yesterday to find my headphones were still sat in the bag I took to last Sunday's wedding fayre. After calling a couple of local guys I know with no luck, the show had to go on....

which was OK (although I felt like my right arm had been chopped off) until the groom in the last hour asked if I could put some up to date dance on - funky house set, fully mixed with no cans! They even clapped at the end!

So what's your story?

Never left anything vital behind.

I will say this....take a backup of everything you possibly can especially headphones.

I have my main pair and something like 4 backup pairs!

i dont mix tho so maybe thats the reason why.

The only thing I have ever left behind was at a wedding a few weeks ago.....

The rail I use to hand my starcloth from which fixes to the deckstand......cant manage without that!!!!

Luckily I was only a few miles from home, so left my roadie setting up while I flew back to get it......

Would have been really in trouble if I had been miles away......so I now check and double check everything before leaving now! Its made me very paranoid that Im gonna forget somthing.

funny that this thread has come up this weekend, the so called laptop/hdd that fried at the weekend was left at home by mistake, went back to get it, wish i hadn`t now.......lol

As you may know search engines (particularly Google) rank sites higher if they have other sites linking to them.

I remember once doing a gig that started at 11pm and was an hour from home. Got there at 10 as I couldn't set up before that only to find I'd left all my speaker leads at home :aa

Can say the missus wasn't to happy having to run all the way out at that time of night :hide:

Long time ago left Headphones at home, luckily my lovely Mum was kind enough to drive out with them  Ever since I keep a cheap compact pair of emergency 'cans' in the toolbox. Forces you to use the PFL meters creatively though!

Also, on another occasion (can't remember how on earth they were overlooked) both speaker tripods ... worked around it, but very embarrassing at the time!!

Hard Drive!!!!!!!

lol.... went out two weeks ago, got there early, waited in the wind, rain and freezing temps... (was in a marquee too)....

Managed to finally start getting gear in when suddenly i just froze...... Although i had brought some cd's with me, the majority of tunes were on my hard drive that i use alongside my HD2500... (Internal hard drive just been cleaned out for housekeeping).... Oh Bugger..... Had to send roadie home to get it.... only at 60mile round trip!!!!

I would have been ok if the Master of Ceremonies (who i like and have worked with a lot) wasn't rushing me so much to start... he wanted to go home and the toggy was causing a fuss cos he wanted to go too... Infact i started with the first dance 15 mins earlier than what the couple had originally wanted.... sods...

i had been ripping some old cd's during the day and had packed up the hard drive with my laptop (which i never take out) when i started loading, my roadie asked if i needed the laptop, i said no, so he took it out.... I had left the hard drive in the laptop bag and forgotten to take it out......

I did managed to find the first dance on an old cd stuffed in the back of a box somewhere and so managed to muddle through for the first half hour before things got really underway and roadie returned with a van that had white hot wheels and am convinced, wings sprouting outta the side of it....

That'll teach me....

When I first stated out, left an entire record collection at home due to rushing out the door!

Again, like others, was able to pop home and return in good time! :ouch:

I wouldnt say mine was in good time......within seconds of the guests coming in through the door I just managed to get the cloth fixed on covering up all the under stand wires which look messy.......but the magic hiding cloth soon sorts that out tongue out icon

Last Saturday I was asked to do a 60s/70s night in a local pub and only when I got there I realised that I had left a bag full of mainly 60s and 70s compelations behind.

I coped but there were times when I thought, "hmm so and so would go down well next" and then realise that it was missing!

Damm you memory :lil devil:
