Has Anyone Done A Gig At The Royal Naval College?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has done a gig here?

Royal Naval College

The gig is actually in the "King William Restraunt".

Has anyone got any tips on parking/access/restrictions etc?

Appart from "keep your eyes open for Traffic Wardens" has anyone got any advice

Cheers

Nick

Yea I will contact the venue, thanks.

I was just wondering if I could get a POV from a DJ, as the DJ point of view may differ from that of the venue's.

I used to live not far from there. Double yellow lines everywhere, loads of traffic and loads of tourists.

It would only be sensible and practical that you are allowed to drive in close to where you will be playing

and to park within the grounds.

Obviously, there are key times of the week/year when the roads will be really busy. Half the 'battle' is when you allow plenty of time on day to get to the RNC, time to report to the front gates, time to unload, move your car to where allocated, set up, etc.

Sometimes, with so much on, it can be easy to forget questions on day such as where is the allocated changing room? Given the size of the RNC, you'll appreciate that there are good sized changing rooms and toilets, however, depending what else is engaged on the day and where you are permitted to venture, corridor access, etc, I'd ask before the event exactly where you can get changed, what other events are on, running times, etc.

Keep an eye out for 'site maintenance' should you visit before hand, especially on and near your designated access area. Confirm if the 'maintenance' will be complete before the function date, what alternative arrangements will be in place so that you can see for yourself first hand - don't be frightened to ask questions!

If not already part of your load, I'd suggest to take a trolley, and with the help of a roadie, obviously it will help immensely!

Like in all situations, whilst you may have a guest suitable sized sound system, work with the venue and client so that the whole experience is fun for all - including yourself!

No point in taking what may look like the "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" landing if you're going to be pushed for time!

For more confidence and a little further scope, when you speak to the venue, enquire if you can be permitted to arrange to do a site visit before hand. If you're lucky, you may even be able to still get a pass and peruse other site buildings if you have the time! You'll be able to take in the pleasantries of Greenwich for a day too!
