Dave80s 0
Hi, I got a quote from JLT/Liability Guard for my PLI and it came out at £209 for £5 million of cover. Is this still the best deal around? I noticed that joining the Musicians Union gets you £10 million of cover and for me it would only be £144. As I am already with JLT I told them this and they said they have a "double the difference" guarantee, but you have to forward the other companies quote, policy terms and conditions. I had a look on the MU website and there are no policy documents or anything. Does anyone know who provides the cover, or have a pdf of their documents? Secondly, how quick does the musicians union certificate come through? (e.g. if I applied today). I need the cover for 16th May but the party organiser is alreasy harrasing me for the documents. JLT will email me the certificate in 3 days max.

Dave80s 0
Is that for £5 million of cover? E&L website says max £1.25m but if it is £5m, that is a good deal!
Reverandfunk 0
Cant remember off the top of my head, as Ive never been asked to show it to be honest I think it probably is 1.25 million In reality why would I need 10 million lol
Dave80s 0
Sounds crazy doesn't it? Most schools specify £5m minimum, so that is what I have to get.

McCardle 1
i am a member of the Musicians Union, the cost for those earning under £15k per year from Deejay / Music activities is only £12 month or £144 a year. Membership is worth it for the pli alone, as most dedicated policies will be much more, although there are many other benefits to membership, such as debt recovery service, legal cover, written contract templates and £1000 worth of free equipment insurance cover for every member. The insurance policy is sent to you every year, usually in late Dec / Early Jan, although you can log in to the MU members area of print off a hard copy of the insurance certificate anytime you like - there are other documents in their too, such as booking contracts, partnership agreements and various other legal templates etc. In the past i've used the MU to successfully chase up a bad debt of £230, I simply contacted my area representative by email and was contacted within the same day for more information - and once they were involved and had made contact the client paid in full - can't fault them for service. If you take that as one example, that particular year I recovered a £230 debt, had £10m pli and also £1000 equipment cover all for £144. Oh, their exclusive 0% for 12 month credit card came in handy too - for spreading the payments on some equipment over 12 months, interest fee - that saved me another 18.9% in interest had I gone the finance route!. The full list of benefits are here:- http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/site/cms/...sp?category=227 Edited April 24, 2008 by McCardle "The voice of the devil is heard in our land" 'War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left, and you wont win this war.' Generally speaking, mobile DJs are considered 'high risk' for policies, so with the £10 million pounds PLI and benefits of membership, £144.00 doesn't sound bad at all. Although you may feel time is against you, the best thing is to compare the various packages and see what really works best for you! When I joined the MU, the paperwork arrived the following week. You can always ring them and ask to be 100% sure on the time scale of application. They have nationwide regional offices too. Dave80s 0
Looks like the Musicians Union is the best value at £144 because of all the other benefits, if you earn under the £15k threshold. However I had already taken out the JLT £1m PLI policy (stupid I know, but bear with me) - so I emailed them explaining that I could cancel with them, pay the £25 admin charge and take out the MU policy and it would still work out cheaper than paying them £208. Can they do better? To their credit they replied informing me that if I took out a "DJGuard" insurance policy with optional £5m PLI (sounds like what James has got) then the cover is only £135! And they would cancel the other policy for free. Sounds good to me. Also if you use the cashback site 'Quidco' you get another 7% off. To sum up, they have 3 different types of cover. Lucky DJs get it cheapest. DJGuard which is £5m PLI and £1k gear insurance = £135 MusicGuard which is £5m PLI and £1k gear insurance = £160 LiabilityGuard which is £5m PLI only = £
Dukesy 0
Doesn't the MU offer £1k ins free too?
